Tendulkar not the first to make one-day 200 for his country

Andrew Nixon, friend of minnowy cricket nations everywhere, has alerted me to an article he wrote for the Cricket Europe website. Apparently Sachin Tendulkar wasn't the first man to make a double-hundred in a one-day match for his country. In fact, he is only the sixth. Indian fans will no doubt be delighted to learn that the first man to do so was called Khan. English fans will equally be over the moon to learn that said Khan was playing for Germany in their big local grudge match against Switzerland (like India v Pakistan only with more milk chocolate) when he made the landmark. Before I go any further, time for the now obligatory disclaimer: this is not a joke but it is only a point of academic interest. No one is denying that Tendulkar's achievement, in a proper ODI against a Test-playing nation, is unique and wonderful and thoroughly deserving of adoration. This year he should win the Nobel Peace Prize, Oscar for Best Actor, Orange Prize for women's fiction and Wisden's Best Cricketer in the Year award. Although Ravi Bopara deserves the fiction one more. However, here are those who made 200 in a one-day match for their country first. Perhaps they should form a club - The Bicentennials - and get together for an annual dinner. Just so long as Tendulkar realises that as the newest member of the club, he has to serve wine and pretzels to the others. Maybe people should have brought up articles like this when pakis were crowing over Saeed Anwar and his 194. On the other hand, i did score a 400 in EA cricket 05...I should be on this record book too. Afterall, Maldives couldn't be harder than Australia in hard difficulty.
