Do any of you use Open Office or other freeware word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software? How do you like the experience compared to paid versions?

It does the job as a free software IMO. You can even try out Google docs if nothing else is available. Why dont you just try it and have a first hand experience.

Thanks Ludh. I don't think Gdocs can open, edit, save MS Word format...I believe Open Office can do that. Yo p-khots, feel free to give it a pass if u dislike it.

I use Google docs a lot. It has all the basic features and you can access your files from anywhere. I also use openoffice and MS office 2007. No doubt MS Office 2007 is the best. I create and edit docs and presentations and then store them in Google docs for accessibility, sharing and small editing in future.

You'll love it. https://www.dropbox.com/ n/m: the above is for sharing to specific people. you can try http://www.slideshare.net/ or http://www.myplick.com/ I don't have experience with them. If you want to share stuff with specific people, I highly recommend Dropbox.

From Wikpedia...

MATLAB is a numerical computing environment and fourth-generation programming language. Developed by The MathWorks, MATLAB allows matrix manipulation, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs in other languages. Although it is numeric only, an optional toolbox uses the MuPAD symbolic engine, allowing access to computer algebra capabilities. An additional package, Simulink, adds graphical multidomain simulation and Model-Based Design for dynamic and embedded systems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MATLAB
