Was not so fortunate Salil. Kalli had long retired, of rather was forced to after he took West Indies "rebellion" team to South Africa. He was quite respected in India though, maybe because of his Indian heritage but also because he played quite a few innings in India. Isnt it interesting how world has changed in 2 decades? From being banned to hosting World Cup. that was a fantastic test match ... which I had the pleasure to follow live on radio ... Kapil bowling with pain killers and who can forget Karsan Ghavri a very under rated bowler. Great days . Two things come to mind about Khavri. a) Great action. He was slow medium but can slip a fast one at times. Excellent languid action. b) Great batting down the order. When folks today think tail enders have become better bat they should check Indian team of 70s/80s when Ghavri, Madan Lals would routinely score 30. Of course we had a share of Maninder Singhs and Dileep Doshis too. There is a thread going on about modern day all-rounders and without peeing on anyone's parade let me just say if folks like Ghavri and Madan Lal played today even they would be considered all-rounders. xxx

I remember Srinath hitting a big six that went out of the stadium. That was a great test match played on a very bowler friendly Wankhede track. This test marked the beginning of the end for Kambli. SRT's 85 is one of his most underrated knocks.

Kambli, it is shocking how quickly things unravelled that series for him. I remember watching with such high expectations from him and SRT, and Kambli kept giving the cordon catching practice. As for SRT, very easy to underrate or forget some of those knocks as he produces so many. There are some innings that are quite underrated for him, others easily forgotten. The 194* at Multan is one of those... IMNSHO a nearly FLAWLESS innings with barely a single mistake from him at all, but the perfection and ease of his strokeplay is so easily forgotten beneath Sehwag's 309 and the madness over the declaration.
