Lurker Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Deewar - Classic. They simply dont make them anymore. Probably best work of Yash Chopra. Scarface - Always thought it was overrated. Agneepath - Amitabh Bacchan and Mukul Anand gelled together wonderfully. I personally think if Mukul Anand would not have passed away so early he would have been one of our landmark directors. Amitabh was terrific, also Mithun played a wonderful role. Has some wonderful action scenes, specially in chawl areas. Also has a very soft soothing song Kisko tha pata kisko thi khabar..which SP Balasubramanyam gladly butchered. xx

There's plenty that's unique on offer in Agneepath but it ripped off huge chunks of Scarface. Also, Just watch that whole clip of Scarface. I challenge anyone to go through it without picturing Amitabh Bachhan.

Always got more inclined towards Godfather I than Scarface though. Agneepath, while Amitabh's acting was top notch, lacked in direction and flow. It was too jerky - just not lucid enough. The individual scenes and performances were brilliant, but somehow the movie did move smoothly enough in narrative.

It's almost like the makers knew they were attempting something so groundbreaking in the Hindi gangster genre that they felt compelled to retain some of the old just in case. I they knew so many would love it they might have worked harder on editing, soundtrack etc.

I run out of superlatives when discussing Deewar and Sholay. For me, Muqaddar ka Sikander was in the same league but more perhaps to do with the impressionable age i was.

Half of what he suggested was factually incorrect. Hispanic gangs never occupied the kind of influence as the protagonist. Although if you are willing to look past the inaccuracies it made for a stellar watch. Regarding Agneepath there is this popular notion that Amitabh based atleast some of his mannerism on Manya Surve, the dreaded urban dacoit of Mumbai who is also infamous for being the first encounter victim. Rumours have it that Dawood was the one who ratted him out. Just a bit trivia.

THX_1138 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 curious... why are people inspired by movies which portray individuals with ambition that is boderline psychotic. in both scarface and in particular in agneepath, the protagonist is inspired by greed, jealousy, and revenge. is that a reflection on these individuals themselves? that somehow they are seeking vindication (from previous avatars in fiction and non fiction) for their destructive drive that is lacking any element of altruism and charity?

I always thought Angeepath was inspired by scarface.
