Umesh Yadav : Fastest Indian in hurry for India cap

I just watched some his bowling videos. Has anyone else noticed that he has 2 different bowling actions? The quick yorker to Parthiv Patel was an absolute beauty. His action was smooth, and fluid, and the pace was just unbelievable. I was surprised to see a cricket ball come out of an Indian hand that quick.

He is in the team for Sri Lanka-Zim-India tri series. :aha:

umesh played well in the second match against lanka.. except for one over , he was fantastic..generated great speed upto 144 K.. and let me tell each one of u he was nervous and hence he was not doing as well as he can.. let his nerves rest and settle down in international cricket and then he will kinda come out. fast bowlers need to mature and great talents like yadav should be persisted in..please understand if u need a slow bowler then we have praveen kumar who is one of the real shrewd bowlers around, what we lack is genuine pace. do u guys know that tait was a bowler who had no line n length but cricket australia persisted and took care of him see him today...nanes tait and johnson had nearly got australia the worl cup final...one needs to persist with yadav, think of india travelling abroad where fast ptiches will need fast bowlers.. on thos pitches if india slects 2 spinners it is a waste, remember azzurudding he played 4 pace bowlers in a match where subroto banerjee took wickets and india got a tie defending 125 runs... one needs to select players depending on pitches. india was defeated badly by australia ..pace bowlers on a bit of friendly pitch in t 20.. bounced india out. even windies beat us.. groom yadav groom dinda .. groom mithun these are nextline guys after zak and nehra..zak seems to be unfit and if he doesnt improve his fitness he will get thrashed and wl finally loose his position. Nehra 's fitness is 50-50 whether he will play tom or not, it cannot be said today , he is a good bowler if he is fully fit. he is one bowler who is india's no 1 pacer when he is fit, but he is normally 90 % fit and he plays a one day or t 20... i mean his fitness is a question mark. fitness affects fielding.........

I think that the hype over Umesh Yadav is largely unfounded upon evidence. He can bowl at 145kph in T20s, with short spells but mainly bowls at 135kph - England have a host of bowlers who do this and are not international standard (Saj Mahmood, Liam Plunkett, Steve Kirby, Amjad Khan, Mark Turner, Chris Wright, etc). Pace does make it more likely that you will succeed, but unless you are bowling at 150kph, speed is no substitute for experience and First Class/List A wickets. He has 42 FC wickets at 21.95 which is good, but in the Plate League, so not fantastic and when we are talking about OD recognition, it is irrelevant. His OD stats are poor, with 10 wickets at 44.60 with economy of 5.11 - if he really was a genuine express pace bowler, the numbers should be a lot better than that and he was shown to have not nearly the control for international level against Zimbabwe.

Can Umesh Yadav be a good test match bowler... Very suprisingly selected for SA tour, a plate league bowler with what is at best an ookkaaayyy FC record I havent seen much of him at all save a few T20 matches So in your esteemed opinions... Discuss.

I think our bowling line-up is pretty much set with Zak,IS,Sree and Bhaj making the frontline 4! Yadav and Unadkat would basically be there for some experience and might fill-in in case of injuries. Yadav IMHO gets in due to his phasst bowling tendencies, which not entirely convincing, still puts him ahead of other phaast pretenders. Unadkat will basically play the wild-card/novelty card for the series.

Fing Dinda was clocking 140+ often in Zimbabwe series with much control than Umesh. Dunno why he was selected - was he doing that good in domestics?

Mithun would have been an ideal backup with a realistic chance of playing.I dont agree with unadkat and yadav's slection at all.our 3 pacers in sree,zak and lambu are all injury prone.We are screwed if we have to play these two.

This yadav guy is pretty impressive for mine. Should be a hit in SA if he gets a game. Yadav is far better than dinda imo. Although both are absolutely crap on flat picthes.

I said what I saw. Dinda looked much more international standard than Yadav. Bowled at better pace, had good yorkers, slower ball, etc. That doesn't mean Dinda>Yadav, but Yadav looked clueless in whatever chances he got.

... in the next two years. Umesh got selected on the basis of his raw pace and promise. Mithun unfortunateluy has ZERO pace and Morkel will be done delivering 2 balls by the time Mithun's delivery reaches the batsman.

He was wayward in the ODIs. If he can't do well in ODIs against Zimbabwe I doubt he will do any good against SA irrespective of conditions.

Yadav has loads of potential. Interesting selection. May have been better to try him out in odis. I have seen yadav bowl a few times and been very impressed, I feel its someone they want to get involved in india set up and work with him before Domestic grind takes his fire away

Hopefully he has worked on his bowling since he last played for India. Did not do much with the ball in the practice match he played vs the Aussies or in the Irani Trophy match. Has the pace, seemed to have developed an outswinger and bowled a few of those in the Irani Trophy match. Perhaps the selectors wanted to have someone with a good pace in the team, a hit the deck hard kind of a bowler and he was considered to be the best bet. BTW now that Unadkat and Yadav have been named in the SA test team, it will not be a bad idea to give both of them a match or two vs the kiwis in the ODI series.

^Hmm maybe; but if anything them playing FC cricket is a better preparation... Hopefully theyre going early with the senior guys. ideally theyd be playing a warm up match of course. Compare our prep here to England playing three warm up matches in Aus. Farcical really.
