That in no way ensures a result in favor of the home side, only a result. On a green top or an under prepared wicket anything can happen and the side might end up losing as well. At Kanpur, South Africa won the toss and were 150/1 at one stage. Similarly, at Bombay '04, India won by a mere 13 runs. Results could have gone either way. Same thing South Africa did at Durban against England.
