CSK Fan Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I had read the book and was planning to see the movie. from your post it is pretty evident they changed the ending. So it ruined the movie watching experience for me..:finger: They did not change the ending at all. Where did I say that?
CSK Fan Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Agree....I mean before I watched it ' date='I was told by someone that there was a twist ending but it felt pretty straightforward and made a perfect conclusion to the movie....again I have not read the novel,so it is coming plainly from the movie perspective.[/quote'] Pretty straightforward? The ending was a big twist
SLICKR392 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Life of Pi! Decent story but I TBH watched it for the visual FX. Oscar for Visual FX will easily go the movie. I'm not sure about people who read the novel to like the story a lot. Brilliant, brilliant FX!! And almost everything was CG -The tiger, Chimpanzee, Zebra and the whole ocean was shot inside a tank in Taiwan. :hatsoff: Must watch!
Yoda-esque Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Caught a couple of terrific Indie films on Netflix : Boy Wonder (7/10) The Hunter (6/10) Both essentially gripping.
maniac Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Pretty straightforward? The ending was a big twist it was straightforward in the sense that the conclusion was perfect to what he was building up to.....I mean it wasnt one of those M.Shyamalan kind of twists where you least expect something
maniac Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 The novel is almost on similar lines just that the Japanese guys question Pi a lot more. And the end is a much more ambiguous than the way the film ends. Also, in the novel, the key to the entire secret is hidden somewhere in a paragraph in the middle of the book. :-) I am sure some liberties were taken to convert it into a screenplay As far as the book goes...just got it from my library...so if I don't find the secret will PM you :haha:....hopefully you have found it :nervous:

Shooting it in a tank is not the big deal ... that is the only way of shooting a middle-of-an-ocean tale as it gives you more options ... the big deal is the kind of PRECISION they've been able to achieve ... they did shoot some stuff with the real tiger as well ... but when they intercut between the real tiger and CG tiger ... it's pretty much impossible (even for a trained eye) to figure out the difference. Also, in CG, when you are handling fur and water, and wet fur, a lot of times the CG looks sloppy ... for example, if you check out the CG of '10,000 BC', you'll realize how fake the tiger looks there.

The most significant 3D done since 'Avatar'. On another note, I think Samit Patel should be nicknamed 'Pi Patel' since he likes eating and throwing pies.
