Karthik has many more chances to prove and he hardly has. But Vijay just had 2 fkinf games and he played positively till he got out in the last game...Why the fk wd anyone decide the fate of a player by just 2 innings? Vijay showed what he can do in IPL. give him dozen more chances.
agreed he should be given more chances before being discarded but seriously even in ODI's looking at the WC i doubt Vijay will come in and at best it will be a replacement for one of Sehwag/Gambhir/Tendu in case of injury to fill a slot at the top. He is in no way a starter even if he manages to do well with the remaining chances. On the other hand i think kohli/sharma are genuine starters in the eleven given the indifferent form of UV so its more improtant they do well qand carry on this good form to the bigger teams.

vijay is taking his place for granted kaarthick is getting starts but loses concentration quickly i'd stick with the same pair all they need to do is get out of the twenty20 mode, and focus on building long partnerships there is enough time than what they think they have

they aren't exactly getting out trying to blaze away so i dont know how T20 mode comes into all this. If anything they are being overly cautious and tentative :dontknow:

when i said there is enough time thank what they think they have, i didn't expect them to take this this seriously :banghead: i've lost my patience now if i were coach, ojha n pathan next opening pair

well pointed out by Dada. This opening pair can not be a long term solution so other players need to be given a chance for the opening position. I think once sachin/sehwag retire, gambhir will take up one of the opening slots and we need to find a partner for him. The above is just an observation for ODI

pathan is being wasted so low down the order he can't do any worse while opening
no harm in trying our openers are playing like shyte anyways !!

More... Openers let us down: Raina Harare: Stand-in captain Suresh Raina expressed concern over the poor form of openers Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik who have failed to fire in the three matches they have played so far in the tri-nation tournament. The Zimbabwean team are turning out to be formidable opposition for the second-string Indian side who have now lost back-to-back matches against them. The most striking factor was the confident performances by their top-order batsmen, especially Brendan Taylor who has developed a liking for Indian bowlers and won his second Man of the Match award. In order to reach the final, the Indians will now have to defeat Sri Lanka handsomely and then pray for a favourable result when the islanders play the hosts. The bonus point earned by Zimbabwe on Thursday could prove to be a decisive factor in the end. The following are excerpts Elton Chigumbura: We had a disappointing match against the Sri Lankans. I would say it’s a good comeback for us after our performance in the last game. Our bowlers bowled well. Andy Blignaut, especially, was outstanding. It’s always a special performance if someone gives away only 22 runs in his 10 overs. Their openers started cautiously but we knew we were in control. We needed one breakthrough and that was it. When we were batting, we needed a good start. Our openers gave us a very good start . All the rest of the bowlers bowled well. We had the bonus point in mind and the boys played positively. Raina: We didn’t bat well. We should probably have scored in the range of 260-270. Credit to the bowlers as they bowled very well. We are not getting good partnerships from the openers. We have to learn from the mistakes that we have made in the tournament. It affected our performance as the openers didn’t get runs in the last two games. Partnerships are the key to success. I must admit we haven’t collectively batted well so far in the tournament. Now the only way to go forward is to play well. Sri Lanka are a good side, let’s hope we do well against them. MoM Brendan Taylor: I am very happy with this performance after our dismal effort against Sri Lanka. The best part is opening the batting with Hamilton (Masakadza). Whenever Hamilton is around, I feel very relaxed as he does the bulk of the scoring. He is a powerful hitter. For some reason, I was ahead of him today. I am feeling happy that I have now got two Man of the Match awards in this tournament. My biggest problem, over the years, has been a lack of consistency. These two innings have given me the required confidence. I would be happy to get another good knock. (Agencies)

There is no harm trying Naman Ojha and Yusuf Pathan opening the innings, even quick 20 30 can give us momentum and anyways Yusuf has been waste of space, so may be new ball he can hit few.
