The BCCI is to issue show-cause notices to some Indian players over their alleged involvement in an altercation at a nightclub in St Lucia following the team's last game of the World Twenty20 on May 11. India exited the tournament after failing to win a single match in the second stage. "The BCCI president has asked the secretary to issue the show-cause notice tomorrow [Tuesday]", Ratnakar Shetty, the board's chief administrative officer, said. The move comes after the tour manager, Ranjib Biswal, submitted his report on the tour to the board on Monday. The report is believed to have indicted eight players who were at the nightclub - Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra, Ravindra Jadeja, Zaheer Khan, M Vijay, Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla. Five of them will be touring Zimbabwe for India's next international assignment, but the pull-up is expected to have no impact on their participation in the tour. "Biswal met the president and secretary and had a discussion on the tour and the report he submitted," Shetty said. "He gave the information about the incident to both. The board also probed into the incident on its own. After considering all the information gathered, the president has decided to issue a show-cause notice to the concerned players." This is the first instance of the board pulling up so many players in public. But Shashank Manohar, the BCCI president, has always had a reputation for being a strict administrator and on this occasion he felt the board was left with little option but to give a warning to the players considering the World Cup is nine months away. And to tolerate such indiscipline, especially after India's exit from the Super Eights in the World Twenty20 for the second year in a row, was inappropriate. As of now there is no clear punishment the players have to bear, but they will be informed about being kept under constant surveillance in every tournament in the future and that any further breach of conduct would only prompt a stricter action from the board. The notices - which have been sent solely on the basis of the nightclub incident - must be replied to within 15 days. The incident took place on the evening of May 11, after India lost to Sri Lanka to ensure their elimination from the tournament. The players, who had been placed under restricted movement till then, were allowed to go out. A few - including some named in the report - went to a local nightclub where some Indian fans were also present. It is believed the fans, upset by the team's performance, taunted the players, following which the situation escalated. Incidentally, Biswal denied reports of the brawl when he returned to India. "There is no truth at all about the brawl. It is all media creation that is doing the rounds,'' he said last week. Why couldn't someone knock Jadeja's teeth out? From next time they'll think twice to travel to Caribbean when this loser team comes for another holiday trip.. This team was seen frolicking on the beaches, playing beach volleyball, having drinks and parties in the pubs, dancing in the disco while other teams spent time practicing and focussing on cricket.. The fans who were staying there couldn't have mised the activities of these holiday making group of ROCKSTARS.. The ROCKSTARS were very lucky of not getting properly thrashed..

It is so easy to generalise and make a sweeping statement. did the Yuvrajs Nehras come asking you to make them rich? You chose to do it. It was your choice. Why don't you stop making them rich and spend your money elsewhere?

Has the BCCI instituted an inquiry on why our team performed miserably? Is there any BCCI led initiative to find out whether team members were unfit and if so, what is the BCCI's response? In fact, what exactly has the BCCI learnt from our performance and what steps is it taking to make sure it does not happen again? Until the BCCI does some or all of these, or at least is seen to address the issues constructively, to me this pub brawl show cause notice will only rank in the category of playing to the gallery.

I do not understand why issuing a notice by BCCI for the brawl the cricketers did the right thing, no one even the fans have the right to abuse anyone personal and expect that the other person will do nothing. It only showed a good team bond between the Indian team. Blaming Jadeja is a stupid decision as he has shown repeatedly that he is a good bowler( see his stats over the year not just 1 t20). Stupid fans and even crazy BCCI and media whom love to twist things and now the situation is interpreted as if the indian players purposely wanted to fight with them rather than the actual opposite way.

By all accounts, the players were provoked by vicious abuse directed at one of their own. The abusers have long since melted back into the night. The Indians may have been unwitting victims in this case, but the Caribbean is no stranger to cricketers behaving badly. In the 1990s, players from Pakistan and New Zealand got into trouble for smoking marijuana on the pristine beaches. Early in the new millennium, five South Africans were also caught having puffs of the same drug. When they were not smoking, they were drinking, imbibing vast quantities of Red Stripe and the rums that each island is so proud of. During the 2007 World Cup, the match between England and South Africa in Barbados came to be tagged The Battle of the Bottle, such was the extent of inebriated antics on either side. Now, it is the Indians’ turn to be caught cold on a Pirates of the Caribbean set. After Sri Lanka had confirmed MS Dhoni and his men would take nothing more than air miles back with a thrilling final-ball win last Tuesday, the players headed out for dinner with a 9.30pm curfew. According to Kolkata’s The Telegraph, this is what happened next: “Tequila’s was already packed with cricket fans, many of whom came from other parts of the West Indies and North America. They’d been drowning their sorrows and, on seeing the Indian players, got really agitated. About four of them almost charged at Jadeja and held him responsible for India’s ouster. “They were abusive with a capital A, leaving Jadeja stunned. That’s when his mates, chiefly Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra, came to his rescue … They told the drunk fans that they had no right to abuse anybody from the team … ‘Criticise, but don’t abuse’ was the message.” The message was not heeded, and doormen were needed to step in to prevent the situation getting uglier. Now that the players are home, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is offering no solace either. In private, the players have been told not to talk, to keep their own counsel and not offer sound bites to newspapers or television. When the same media outlets sensationalise the story, they can offer no defence. For the board in India, this Caribbean chaos has come at the perfect time. After India’s exit, there was plenty of criticism for the mandarins, for everything from the schedule of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to the poor fitness levels of the players picked. The serving of the show-cause notice deflects attention back to the players. During the IPL season, late-night parties were held both to raise funds and also to get “the stars closer to the fans”. That was always a very bad idea, especially with alcohol involved. This fracas sets a dangerous precedent. “The World Cup’s seven months down the line and [the over-the-top reaction] has been quite scary,” one player told the Hindustan Times. “I’m going to send my family away during the cup, because we lose, someone might try and burn my house down.” After their pallid displays in the West Indies, India’s players need to introspect on a variety of issues, ranging from playing the short ball to keeping trim. But it’s the yobbish fans who know nothing of the essence of sport that really need a bout of soul-searching.

But all this is from "sources" so I'm still not quite convinced, given that Nehra even denied ever being to a party after the match, on Live India.
