Precambrian Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Ojha and Flathappa are better T20 players or any players than Sehwag? :hysterical: Uthappa is definitely a better player than Sehwag atleast since the IPL started. Telling a lie thousand times doesn't make it a truth. Check out their IPL records. Sehwag has become worse while Uthappa has improved over the years in that format. So what if two cricketers aren't fatigued and firing, two dozen are not firing! What? Australians have played more matches than Indians, and they all seem to be firing. Of course you may continue to make up stuff ignoring the truth. Watson, Hussey, Johnson, Warner, all have cases for being as tired as our guys, but somehow we ignore that fact conveniently. Does playing a county season help players in general? Yes or No? Haha again evasion. The truth is it depends on the players. Tendulkar, Dravid, etc did not need to play in the Shield to become great players on such pitches. On the other hand you've Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif who played in the county cricket and improved zilch. Read and weep : http://www.cricinfo.com/countycricket2010/content/story/454048.html http://beta.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/article425621.ece You better improve your comprehension mate. The reason for not allowing Sehwag to participate is NOT because BCCI thinks he is exhausted, but that playing such county cricket MAY exhaust him for the upcoming season. A fair call. IPL or no IPL the call would be the same. India is preparing herself for a World Cup in next 10 months or so and would want all her players fit and running. You are trying to find a link where none exists. Show me where BCCI has specificially said they need to "rest" key players as they're already fatigued, for the Zim series??? Because all they mention is they want to give the youngsters a chance, in a relatively less important series. It's a simple question and does not need any dilly dallying unless you are trying to squirm out of the corner you've pushed yourself into : Is IPL one of the factors in our poor show in T20 WC? Yes or No? I would also be interested in knowing the statistical analysis you did to come up with the < 5% figure? IPL is a very minor factor in our poor show in T20 WC. As I have shown, players who did well in IPL also did well in T20 WC generally, and vice versa. It is not as if players who were scorching the earth in IPL suddenly became sullen, tired and flopped in T20 World Cup. So get your facts straight. Answer me this, Sri Lanka, Australia and England had players in the IPL. How come they all got into the semifinals? Just to get facts straight, 15 out of the top 20 runscorers in this World Cup had played in IPL. :icflove: I pity on you when you've to clutch onto throwaway bits in my argument like 5% (which anyone with half brains know to understand I used it to emphasise on the very minor part IPL has) My point is simple. The players who were selected sucked at playing short deliveries, and were out of form generally. Our selectors in their infintite wisdom, chose to select names over performances, and it screwed us. Had they given a bit of attention to the IPL performances of guys, they wouldn't have selected them in the first place and perhaps we would have reached semifinals. Of course, the likes of you will find it hard to accept, as you still think Sehwag is a great T20 player and the likes. It is better to speak to a wall than such people really!
The Outsider Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Precambrian, let's move on to the more complex issues of life once you answer this, which actually was the the very first part of my previous post, you forgot to quote and answer : Let me simplify it for you : 1. SJS said that IPL was one of the factors in our poor performance. 2. You agreed completely with his post. 3. You've wasted precious kilobytes and my brain arguing IPL is not a factor in our poor performance. How do you reconcile the above three?
Chandan Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Shwetabh, I am really amazed at your patience to argue with an incredibly dumb fellow for such a long time!! I have lost that patience.

thevortex Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 It is not like practise matches would have changed the fortune of team, even if the indian team do not have any formal practise matches, they can or must have played some informal ones while in training. And how did you judge the tiredness? Did the players show a lack of commitment due to tiredness, I do not think so. they still carried the same problem from IPL, short pitch deliveries, where IPL should have provided them a platform to practice against them with quality overseas bowlers, our indian batsman still did not learn. If there is anything we should do is praise IPL for giving an opportunity for our batsman to play against the quality bowlers which should have helped to resolve their short pitch deliveries problems and also a chance to test new strategies against different players. And is there a law that without IPL, our players would have learned to play the short pitch deliveries and perhaps even be more tactically sound that u keep blaming IPL. I just do not think so. What? You are now assuming we had practice matches within our team??? By the way, practice matches were organized by the ICC ahead of this tournament. If we had made time we could have played against the other international sides. Nothing better than that. I hope you see it that way. Are you saying you were not able to see the tiredness in India's cricket? I have to ask you - did you watch the matches live? There are a lot of problems with the IPL - its scheduling and organization, surely. I dont see how that is too hard to acknowledge.
ZodiaC Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 You continue to miss the point. If the surfaces are different to what these players encounter in the IPL, then it makes sense to complete the tournament in time for the team to have a couple of practice matches at West Indies. The issue here is that. And this scheduling factor also addresses the fact that the players cannot have been fresh after such a hectic travelling and playing schedule. You seriously think a couple of practice matches would've worked miracles for the team? And about players being fresh and stuff, lets give the benefit of doubt in the case of schedule... But traveling? Even you have to travel for Ranji trophy games FFS...
The Outsider Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 So I assume you don't have answers for the more important questions I posed? You are basically trying to deviate it :hysterical: Oh...don't be so impatient. We'll get to all those points in due course. How about we start one by one from the unanswered bits from my previous post first, as your avoidance of them is showing you as the only one trying to deviate from things : Let me simplify it for you : 1. SJS said that IPL was one of the factors in our poor performance. 2. You agreed completely with his post. 3. You've wasted precious kilobytes and my brain arguing IPL is not a factor in our poor performance. How do you reconcile the above three?
vvvslaxman Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Albie Morkel when he played in the second IPL said that he would not give away the secrets about South African players even if he plays for different franchises. But it is pretty hard to do that for an Indian player. Even the weakness of rookie players are analyzed at the IPL level. It is a clear disadvantage for us.
thevortex Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 You seriously think a couple of practice matches would've worked miracles for the team? And about players being fresh and stuff, lets give the benefit of doubt in the case of schedule... But traveling? Even you have to travel for Ranji trophy games FFS... Why Zodiac? Dont tell me you dont believe in practice matches - especially when you play away from home! And dont tell me you are realistically comparing the travel that takes place for the Ranji Trophy with the merry go round that goes on in the IPL!!
ZodiaC Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Why Zodiac? Dont tell me you dont believe in practice matches - especially when you play away from home! And dont tell me you are realistically comparing the travel that takes place for the Ranji Trophy with the merry go round that goes on in the IPL!! Pray tell me, why not? Yeah, a couple of matches and bingo, we're the best players of short ball, against which we started to struggle since the last T20 WC!! :two_thumbs_up: It's not that I don't believe in practice matches, but in our case I honestly don't believe one or two practice matches against some low profile teams wouldn't have really helped much...

The Outsider Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Why are you quoting same thing again and again? I like to use facts to base my opinions on while you resort to lying and evasion. When you do that sort of a thing don't be surprised if more people take the mickey out of you.
