Croft was part of the potent West Indian quartet of fast bowlers from the late 70s and early 80s. With his height, he bowled bouncers and was very aggressive. He was renowned for bowling wide of the crease over the wicket and angling the ball in to right-handers. They mainly played in a time when cricket was quite limited. Both of these batsmen have been highly favoured because they made their marks against England, and have been highly touted by the English. However, I ask you this. When, in the annals of cricket, had England been the world’s best cricket team? England may have invented the game, and its scribes may have conjured up their heroes, but overall, England has been very poor indeed. To date, they are still trying to win a contemporary international competition, despite all of the sycophantic rhetoric! Bradman and Headley were great for their time, but, for me, not of all time. Bradman made 6,996 runs; 52 Tests, avg. 99.94, mostly against England and South Africa. Headley, with very limited outings, due to the West Indies only being admitted to Test cricket in 1928, was also great, and played mainly against England and Australia; only 22 Tests, making 2,190 runs, average 60.83.

Did you pick this up from Wikipedia? Croft must have played against, Sunny, Alan Knott & Dennis Lillee. Watched the rest of them since his broadcasting days. No wonder a lot of legends/greats don't find a maention in his team. In all honestly, this is just an exercis in futility. Giving arm chair critics & fans something to debate about.

Also if you are picking 11 players from those who have played cricket as far, any 11 would look good. The only Q is how good it is comparatively. Taking Crofts' AT11, I would probably make the following changes to its batting order: 1. Sunil Gavaskar 2. Jacques Kallis 3. Brian Lara 4. Sachin Tendulkar 5. Vivian Richards 6. Garfield Sobers 7. probably,but Gilly's edge over Knott as batsman is far more than Knott's edge over Gilly as keeper p,s. i consider to be the best keeper i saw ever
