Mithun, the Karnataka fast bowler, was called-up to the senior Indian squad currently on tour in Zimbabwe to replace his state team-mate Vinay Kumar who was injured. An opening bowler and useful lower order batsman, Ganapathy made his mark in the 2008-09 season as a bowler, helping Tamil Nadu make the Ranji semi-finals. The following season, he started contributing more as a batsman, converting his 40s and 50s to centuries and bailing the team out of trouble in crucial situations. He ended the season with 543 runs at 77.57 and 18 wickets at 24.22. He followed it up with a five-wicket haul for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy final and was awarded an IPL contract, though he played just one game for Chennai Super Kings. India A play their first match on tour against Yorkshire at Leeds, a three-day game starting on Saturday.

I think selection committee is biased towards south zone here...Ganpathy is no where near an international material same like vinay kumar...they could have chosen..abu nechim ahmed who did well in his comeback season for Assam or maybe Varun Aaron who has some experience of staying in England or Pradeep Sangwaan who is younger and left armer or Parvinder Awana from Delhi who has been ignored by everyone but is a very good lively pacer....other than that Ishant could have been sent to get his rhythm back after bowling on some helpful pitches in good weather there or Praveen Kumar..other than that i dont see any other option maybe MS Gony but he is out of favor Bt my main bet would have been Abu Nechim Ahmed or Varun Aaron

Perhaps Abu Nacheem has been ignored for the same reason why Rayudu was ignored, ie, ICL. But other bowlers like Sangwan or Awana could have been considered. Srikkant has lost the plot of selection with vision for long term. Is his term ending this October or not? He'll be completing 2 years then.

lol you are laughable He ended the season with 543 runs at 77.57 and 18 wickets at 24.22. those numbers are not bad well he did play for Chennai in IPL but they just preferred to have their all rounder as albie or kemp and didn't select him for the matches barring one match where he got to bowl only one over i think. i haven't watched him play much barring that one over in IPL so i wouldn't rate him up or rate him down but he has had an impressive season so i will reserve my judgement until i have seen enough of him. I think he is an allrounder in the rajat bhatia mould ( albeit a little faster bowler) there are others who could have been given a go like pathan or perhaps ishanth sharma, sreesanth to get their confidence back i trust you have been watching all his matches and seen enough of his bowling and batting to make this judgement. or have you ?

Well this is an A team, no one here is international class. Not yet certainly Bit silly to replace a frontline bowler with a bits and pieces type player. I would agree with sending Ishant there to get his rhythm back. In fact the pace lineup for this A tour should have been Irfan, Santh, Ishant, Rudra PS. That way these guys, who we KNOW are international class can get to bowl long spells in helpfuls conditions...get the bowling feel back... without the strain of playing for an actual county

RP, Munaf , I Sharma , IRFAN etc kind of bowlers should have been selected for either the tri-series or the A tour. Its highly unlikely we will be able to find a new bowler before the WC so its best to try the ones who have been decent in the past and see if they have found their rhythm. I dont mind trying new bowlers but IMO not giving a chance to the experienced bowlers 10 months before the WC is not really smart

Who else are the top domestic bowlers? I think he's right up there in the domestic setup if you disregard the international capped bowlers. The point about sending in the likes of RP Swing, Pathan, Sreesanth would've been a good choice as well. With the English conditions in their favor, they would have been very tough to face. Apart from that, it would send the signal to these bowlers that they are right in the mix of things and just need to regain their mojo.

completely agree it would have been a safer bet to try and get one of the older (international experienced bowlers) to try and get their mojo back than to try out some one new.
