Why does it also annoy the heck out of billions of TV viewers worldwide, players on the field and causes damage to their hearing/sight/...especially in a premier tournament which happens once in 4 years?

It is their culture to blow vuvuzelas during the matches...if that is so, so be it. Do you think it is right to stage one of the greatest tournaments in a country and ask the local people not to celebrate in their own way? Do you know what happened when they banned the drums and liquor during the 2007 wc? The locals didn't care to turn up. Do you want to see a repeat of it on football stage? I too am annoyed by the sound, I'd to put my TV on mute during a couple of matches...but it is not right to boss a host nation as to how the world cup should be held. Just my opinion.

We usually tend to blindly ape anything British or Spanish or generally Western, but when it comes to accepting a different culture, we won't. We think guzzling down beer after beer coz we saw the Man U fans doing it is fine, we think acting all roguish coz hooligans do it is fine. We think bad-mouthing fans of other teams & booing them on the ground is fine. I personally find the "rhythmic" signing/booing/swearing in Europe a pain to watch. The vuvuzela is not.

So billions of people world over have to mute their TV (like you said) while watching the world's most premier event which happens just once every 4 years just so that the host nation can enjoy their culture. :two_thumbs_up: PS: this is not a cultural exchange event, rather a sporting event for the enjoyment of fans all over.

I can tell you as the person that has been to the most EPL games on this forum that a few hours of people shouting insults at opposition players, refs, opposition fans, managers, their own team that its actually not great. However it sounds good on TV so all you arm chair fans think it must be some kind of awesome special atmosphere in these stadiums. Oh well Blatter agrees with me so your all wrong, the world cup isnt for the TV, its for the people in the stadium.
