Attitude of youngsters a worry for Team India June 17, 2010 With just eight months to go for next year's World Cup, time is ripe for the youngsters to impress the selectors but there still seems an attitude problems with players such as Pragyan Ojha and Saurabh Tiwary. Though the nucleus of Team India for the 2011 World Cup has more or less been determined, the selectors are now faced with the challenge of picking role-specific players for the remainder of the slots. While it presents the youngsters with an opportunity to work harder to stake their claim, the lackadaisical attitude of Ojha and Tiwary during the Asia Cup match between India and Bangladesh on Wednesday left much to be desired. Ashok Dinda, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ojha and Tiwary were given a work schedule during the lunch recess. While Dinda and Ashwin stretched their sinews to complete their assignment of doing six laps of the Rangiri Dambulla International cricket Stadium, Ojha and Tiwary were noticeably reluctant. Team trainer Ramji Srinivasan, entrusted with the onerous task of keeping the players fit as a fiddle, had to virtually push them to complete their drills. An aghast media watched the stubborn twosome being publicly cajoled by Srinivasan. This isn't the first occasion when Ojha has been hauled up by the team management. He had been ticked off by former India fielding coach Robin Singh during the series against New Zealand in the antipodes. The left-arm spinner has been a reluctant participant in training and fielding drills, merely watching his team-mates slog it out under the sun while he remained in the comfort of the sidelines. Given an Indian call-up through the Indian Premier League (IPL) route than through performance in the domestic circuit, Tiwary was expected to bend his back to gain fitness for stiffer international assignments. On the contrary, the muscular lad from Jharkhand, who was given the privilege to substitute for Ashish Nehra as he was presumed to be the fittest among the reserves, just didn't seem to appreciate the opportunity.

There is no hope for India after Gauti' date=' Sehwag, Dhoni retire.[/quote'] C'mon. There was a similar fear when Sachin, Dravid and dada were in their prime. Then emerged Sehwag, Gauti and Dhoni. When the time comes, we will have some of them ready to take over.

Ojha needs to made an example of..same as Yuvraj...do not care how good a bowler he is..rules apply to all ..and if he isn't showing commitment to keeping fit..get out of the freakin team. Same with Tiwary

It is absolutely unbelievable these guys play international cricket without showing scant respect towards fitness. These guys only have to look at the training regimes of Matthew Hayden, Justin langer when they played for Australia. Brutal.

Man, Yuvi is at least one of the best limited overs batsmen in the world...these guys are nothing in comparison and already this sort of attitude.

These are the same guys who go on a record how they'll do "khoon pasina ek" to come true to selector's faith. It's pretty bloody obvious, the faster you get the India cap the faster you are going to take it for granted. Tiwary was an unknown commodity till the last IPL and was drafted into national team's reckoning based on those 14-15 performances where he barely spent time equivalent to less than 50 overs. More than the youngsters, it's the selectors who are to be blamed for having no vision whatsoever and I just cannot wait for this team of selectors to gtfo of their seats. They have made blunders after blunders and caused huge shame in test series vs RSA for which I can never forgive them. We've had our share of incompetent selectors but I think this batch of idiots are right up there. P.S: Achilles, Dhoni: I have not edited a single comment. Whichever mod did it, might have had his/her reason to do it. Let them do their job.

Its time BCCI gave the powers to Kirsten to crack the whip on the unfit players . Have strict guidelines on fitness and anyone who doesnt fit the bill, gets a boot irrespective of how senior/critical he is. We need to send the message across else it will be too late. Its a shame that none of our players look like professional athletes. The less said about youngters like Mishra, Ojha, Chawla, Rohit, the better. The word fitness regime seems to have completely disappeared from Indian cricket.

what a shameful display ,this will never be tolerated in other teams(except of course the pakis).when you dont do what the coaches ask you to then you are no use to the national team.I have lost a lot of respect for both.

All that said' date=' this article is coming from, well, Rediff ![/quote'] To be more precise, from Joseph Hoover of PTI, a guy known for inventing stories of his known. BTW Nehra wasnt on field for the 2nd half of the innings and Tiwary was the substitute. I am sure, the trainer wouldn't have asked him to do 6 rounds of the stadium after fielding for 15-20 overs. But then this doesnt change the fact that most of our fielders are sloths and need a danda to get back in shape.

Does Joseph have that kinda rep? Didn't know a reputed news-trust like PTI had someone with an inkling of suspicion around him. Agree with the latter though.

PTI's quality of news isn't of very high standards, especially from their special correspondents. These jokers are always prowling the net, reading blogs etc and lift some news directly from discussion forums or at time create stories based on unconfirmed rumours. I won't be surprised if in the past , some PTI correspondent directly lifted content from ICF for one of his articles
