 I guess he was just trying to be humble and say that there is a possiblility of his record being broken and named the best spinner he felt could reach anywhere close to his mark.... rather that be smug n laugh at the reporter's face and say... "someone will break my records... are you drunk????" :cantstop:

If Murali had known Harby is 30 and has 350+ wickets in 85 tests, he wouldn't have made that statement. Seems like he thinks Harby is much younger going by his comment "I don't know how old is" and for some reason probably also thinks he has many more wickets that the 350.

He probably mis-spoke' date=' bhajji would do well to get past Anil Kumble’s record, let along Murali’s.[/quote'] Agreed - that is a more realistic target for Bhajji.

Murali has gone nuts or what? I think he has no idea about Bhajji's stats as he says. Only record he can possibly break is Walsh's 519 or at best McGrath's 563 (highly unlikely), let alone Kumble's 619.

I think Murali is saying - my record is going to stay forever. He tipped Harbhajan's name to give an indication that of the currently active bowlers, Harbhajan is in 'best' position and he has left for others to calculate that its next-to-impossible even for Harbhajan. So, either Murali is being very smart or just turned senile.

no way.

Yeh baat hazam nahin hogi even if you use a jar full of Hazmolas..
Is he Muralitharan or Bawlitharan? :hmmm:

Don't you all think that Murali might be saying this just to put extra pressure on Harbhajan Singh as he is the only experienced bowler left for India in the series against Sri Lanka? I think Murali is very cleverly playing a mind game here for one last time. Now it is upto Harbhajan to get pressurised by such a statement or to get fired up!

More likely some jholachaap journalist asked him, 'Sir, Murali sir who do you think will break your record?' and being the modest character that Murali is, instead of saying that he can't think of anyone realistically at the moment, named the only bowler with 300+ wickets and still playing the game at a decent enough age.

I am of firm opinion that Bhajji will end up as being the highest wicket taker for India surpassing Anil Kumble which I think is expected given his talent. However, Murlis record wont be broken and it shouldnt be. Because murli is more lethal. Murli was just saying that there is only one 300+ spinnner and has some age to him who is currently playing. so might be a distant possibility..Not that it is going to happen at all. Murli was just responding to a cheap question form an indian journalist.

Kumble - 619 wkts Harbajan - 355 wkts - 83 matches in 12 years since Debut. He is already 30 years. At best he will play another 5 years. Assumming India play 8 tests a yera over the next 5 years and he plays all of those 40 tests, he will have to get an average of over 6.5 wkts per match. His current career avaerage is less than 4.5 wkts per match. At best I see Harbhajan getting around 550 wkts.. I dont think he will break Kumble's record.
