The ICC rankings (like most sports rankings) are not infallible and have to be taken with dollops of salt and Sangakarra should have known that. After all when Sri Lanka rose to number two they too had big gaps in their 'CV' which does not need repeating. I do not recall any such 'out cry' at that time. Unless someone comes up with a ranking system that is acceptable to all we have to take the one we have and not gloat over our brief forays into the top spots or lament our slippage. Everyone with solid stuff between the ears can tell which is the better side when the differences are glaring and when they are very close the few points do not really make or mar a side anyway. Rankings are for the electronic media and the kids to make a song and dance about unless the gap is massive as with Australia's dominance for so many years but then one didn't need the rankings and the points to know they were the best did one? I remember the time when Safina was top of the women's tennis rankings not such a long time ago and anyone who follows tennis knows her record in the grand slams. Sangakarra would have been better advised to stick the FTP and the need to a more equitable one rather than bring in the ranking system of the ICC PS : It is only fitting, I suppose, that in a sport where pure batting (or bowling) averages are used by millions of fans to decide who is better than who, the ranking system for the teams should be equally childish. Sangakarra should just accept that and act grown up.

Sri Lanka has lost it's last away series to India handsomely, drew against West Indies :eyedance:, lost hopelessly to Australia, drew against New Zealand, drew against England and lost pretty miserably against South Africa. How can he comment on the ratings? How can Sri Lanka lay claim to no.1 if they can't even win a series in West Indies? If I'm right the last away series Sri Lanka has won was in 2000 against Pakistan. Sri Lanka has not won a test series since then overseas other than against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Go figure.....

We didnt deserve to be the no 2...& india doesnt deserve to be no 1 as well.... u usually get hammered in tests when u come to SL & we get hammered every time when we come to yours..but 2 your credit u guys atleaset have won test matches in SL, where we have not in your country Like SL..u guys are home bullies as well... if u take a look at the last 2 years of away test wins..the only 2 notable wins are 1 against us in galle & 1 against NZ..all the others are with Bangla... your are missing the point my friend. India has won thier away series in Eng,NZ and WI and did manage to win a test match in the series which we lost in Aus, Sa ans sri lanka. Whereas Sri lanka has lost all the matches they have played in Aus, SA and india( 1 match was a draw in india). And sri lanka didn't even won the series in Wi, Nz and Eng. So its not right to call india just slightly better than sri lanka, india is certainly way better than sri lanka when playing away.

Excuse me we deserve to be NO 1 because we have Beaten the Then NO-1 Team Aus Fair and Square. What have you done against AUS and other teams?:finger: Whats is your record away from home? Yes you beat India, but couldnt ever gave India Hammering as you got in India. Every series was competitive and the result was 2-1. Without a shadow of doubt we are the Best Test team from Asia if not from Rest of the World. SL is an awful team, they cant even beat Windies away from Home.:giggle:

On what basis you are counting 2 years? Are you a troll? Every Tour say India in Aus or England in Aus comes once in 4 years, so you should analyse 4 years. Last two years we havent toured abroad other than NZ beacuse we are due to tour England and Sa Later this year and Next year. But you compare that with Lanka, they have always lost when it comes to away tours unlike us. You shouldnt compare pack of losers with a team who havent played enough cricket away. Which is quite natural as the tours are due next to be Played. And we toured Aus in 2008 and England in 2007. SL have "Lost" to Windies when they played them away from home in 2008. Spot the difference.

On what Logic KID? In Terms of Cricketing achievemnets in Last 4 years you cannot compare SL with India. Look at what you play when you tour SA, AUs, Eng And even India. How many tests have you won? There is Helll and Heaven difference between your FTBs and India.

Now look at the statistics and Find out the differance. In last 10 years outside home we have beaten you twice ( Considering you beat Teams like SA 3-0 thats a big achievent.) And when you tour India, I cant remember when was the last time you won anything here. Not just that, over last 4-5 years Take a look at the statistics of Lanka away from home and compare that with India. You don need to be rocket scientist to call Lanka FTBs :winky:

Sri lanka has lost 20 matches on their away tours in last 10 years and won only 7(excluding BD and Zim). And outside Asia they have won only 3 matches out of 23 matches played.
