HowardRoark Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 My boss today proposed me a business trip to India from 7th March for 2 weeks, covering Mumbai and Ahmedabad (Of course, will also visit my native Chennai over the weekends)...Need to check if I can make it to any of the interesting matches in these venues around those dates...I excite :woot:

The atmosphere was electric, really. Of course, like the Indian supports do at the Indian grounds, the local crowd was partisan. At the stadium, I met a friendly Bangladeshi fan who was very helpful to me (he even bought drinks and food for me, saving me the trouble buying it myself from the crowded shop there). To me, it was a very new experience. The best part is, the security let me byepass the queue while entering the stadium, let me change my seat to the one where you get the best possible view and so on - simply because I am a foreigner. I was treated like a VIP guest all the way. It was very very kind of them to let me have those privileges. And, to top it all, Indian team did very well. Overall, the trip was worth it....

Do they ask for IDs at the ground? Right now buying tickets in the black market seems like my only hope to attend the quarters/semis/finals. I'm coming from NZ so can't buy them at retail outlets. Speaking of which anyone aware of retail outlets in Mumbai?

BTW I don't know how risky it is buying tickets in black in India, so I'll let someone from India answer that.

Delhi to release 25,000 tickets for the fans out of the available 45,000 while Nagpur to allot 32,000 out of the available 55,000 tickets. Earlier on Thursday, the situation boiled over when baton-wielding police clashed with thousands of fans queuing to buy tickets for Sunday's high-profile clash between India and England at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy stadium. Several people were injured as police attempted to keep order among the throng estimated to be 30,000-strong. All 7,000 tickets put on sale sold out within hours, leaving many disappointed fans who had waited at the ground overnight. The violence came as the International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed its concerns that the squeeze on tickets and delays in delivery were pushing its relationship with its powerful commercial backers to breaking point. Sachin=GOD Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Men in Blue open heart, donate kit for disabled kids BANGALORE: The Indian cricket team does not make a song and dance about the contributions to charity but on Friday night, accompanied by some moving music that included the catchy World Cup tune, they did their bit for a bunch of visibly moved disabled kids. They contributed some of their kit for the auction of sporting memoriblia, which will go on to fund a new building for the Mathru Foundation. It was a night to remember for those part of Aasare Shelter, a set up of the trust run by Malathi K Holla, the paraplegic athelete, and supported by the likes of cricketer Venkatesh Prasad and athelete Ashwini Nachappa among others. The biggest catch on the day though was not Dhoni's wicketkeeping gloves, but Tendulkar's bat that fetched a whopping Rs 5 lakh, bought up after a stiff contest by a philanthropic Bangalorean, who also picked many more items. Lending a fine touch to the proceedings that saw as much as Rs 9 lakh being raised, even as a series of toasts were raised at the poolside of the venue, were a trio of Bangalore cricketers who fought hard to buy up Anil Kumble's jersey with the intention of then hanging it up in the KSCA president's chambers. In all 13 items went under the hammer, with the three top buys being Rs 5 lakh for Tendulkar's bat, Rs 65,000 for Javagal Srinath's ODI jersey and Rs 60,000 for a bat autographed by all 15 members of the current Indian WC squad. The other items that were put out and bought up were Rahul Dravid's bat (Rs 25,000), a ball signed by a few Indian players ( Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan among them), Dhoni's wicket-keeping gloves, VVS Laxman's gloves and pads. I know that most places will show the football in the afternoon, but was wondering if there are any asian pubs/bars/restaurants that might be showing it.
