Indian Cricketers pay - Why so low?

Putrevus, 26% is the highest of all boards. So its pretty good. The rest goes in developing the game across the country and developing infrastructures. Having said that, i would like to know how exactly the rest is distributed too. I saw the bonus system which means that most of top 15~20 players that play for India in the year get around 180,000£ match fees per year. Although this is lower than Aus and Eng, more players get near this amount compared to lesser players who get 400,000£ in Aus and Eng. Another thing to note is that Indian players get 3500£ per test while ranji players get 2500£ per 5 day games. This is probably the highest pay for domestic players in any country and equivalent to what paki international players get.

26% is too low, players make the sport more popular not the administrators, where is that 74 % of revenue going, look at NFL and other american sports they give more than 50 percent to players and they are privately owned enterprises. BCCI is supposed to be non profit organization where is the rest of 74% going, Yes Players are making lot of money thru commericals or IPL but that is chump change compared to what deals the BCCI getting from tv rights and other sponsorships. These babus of BCCI are skimming off huge amounts to their own pockets which is sad as that money should be diverted to development of future players and building world class facilities, they damn closed MRF which was doing something for future of Indian cricket.

I have no love for the BCCI, but these random comparisons with NFL/NBA really tick me off. How many stadiums does a franchise in NFL have to maintain? How many new ones do they construct? How many sub boards at the state level do they have? How many tournaments at a domestic level do these franchises conduct? At least think through an analogy before giving it. Is there swindling going on in BCCI? Of course there is, but the players are being compensated very well, not only at the national level but also at the domestic level as well as the retired players.

I cannot believe people are actually making a case for Indian cricketers to be paid a lot more. It’s a bit like the Republican plan for more tax-cuts for the rich. :hysterical: And how crazy are you guys for comparing NFL/NBA/EPL salaries to the salaries of Indian cricketers? Their cost structures/business model are entirely different to ours. And how could you possibly compare the cost-of-living in a place like England, to say a country like India? Its not even the same ball-park. That someone like Badrinath, Wasim Jaffer got paid 25 lakh rupees for this year, even though they didn’t play an international match for India, is testament to the fact our treatment of players has come a long way. If there’s one thing you CAN fault the BCCI/Local boards for, it is their treatment of spectators/fans alike, with what all the shabby facilities at the stadiums.

the question is why are they not paid in accordance to revenue the board is generating, if they are not even paying Indian cricketers equal to what aussies are getting then where is money going. ad revenue and IPL money for players should not be counted , who is pocketing all the money from tv deals.

What employers pay employees is based on a number of factors like cost-structures (which obviously factors in revenue stream), cost-of-living in that region, supply-demand of that particular skill-set and other well-established pay-scale practices. For example, a company like Google had an operating profit of $8.3 Billion last year, while the same number was $590 million for yahoo. So are you suggesting that the Tier 2 Engineer in Google get paid nearly 15 times more than someone of similar pay-grade? Of course it doesn’t work that way. Obviously, a Tier Engineer in Google probably makes more than a Tier 2 Engineer in Yahoo, but the difference is probably in the region of 10%-15%.

If I am not wrong the stadiums are maintained by respective state boards and all the new stadiums are funded by state govts not bcci. yes state boards get their share of revenue from BCCI but majority of state boards income come from hosting international matches. This is for Hyderabad new stadium "Most of the funding for the project came after an open auction of the stadium's title was held. Visaka Industries Limited won the auction with a bid price of Rs. 65,00,00,000. A sum of Rs. 43,00,00,000 was paid in advance and the stadium was named as Visakha International Stadium in 2004." I assume most of new stadiums built across the country are being done like that only. BCCI total revenue for 2007-08 was 1000 crores, so how much is it going towards player development and how much is being distributed to other state boards.How much is being pocketed by these office bearers in BCCI. Yes it has operating costs to hold domestic competitions but that is chump change to what BCCI is earning.

Who said Dhoni and SRT are under 10 cr???Dhoni made$10mn last year and SRT 8mn. Dhoni's recent contract assures him a minimum of $15mn per year. The cost of living in India is much less........change this into PPP and you will know.

My argument was not for players getting more income, my argument was where is money going, players are not getting it, BCCI is generating insane amount of money with TV deals. All the staduims across the country are mostly owned by their state govts or leased to state boards.BCCI has done nothing to improve facilities for spectators to make it more fan friendly as it feels it is responsibility of that state board. These players have no unions so they are subject to these ridiculous schedules and they have no say what so ever in playing schedules ,they know if they sit out due to injuries due to non stop playing their place in the team cannot be guaranteed.so who is safe guarding players interest and who is questioning the board on how it is handling the money.
