Indian Cricketers pay - Why so low?

Came across the daily mail article on pay gap and saw the annual retainer each board pays its members. Australia: £400,000 England: £400,000 South Africa: £105,000 India: £82,500 West Indies: £77,250 Sri Lanka: £77,250 Pakistan: £22,500 Bangladesh: £12,000 As you can see Aus and Eng earn much much more than us and even lesser boards like Sri lanka and WI pay as much as BCCI does to our players. Moreover, the £82,500 for India is only for Grade A players (9 players ) while the rest gets 55k or lower. This is the retained players list, Grade A (9 players) : Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh Grade B (7 players) : Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Munaf Patel, RP Singh, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra Grade C (8 players) : S Badrinath, Wasim Jaffer, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Pragyan Ojha, Sreesanth, Dinesh Karthik, Amit Mishra Grade D (17 players) : Piyush Chawla, Ravindra Jadeja, Robin Uthappa, Parthiv Patel, Cheteshwar Pujara, Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Ashok Dinda, Wriddhiman Saha, M Vijay, R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Sudeep Tyagi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Abhishek Nayar, Ajinkya Rahane, Manoj Tiwary Although we probably have a lot more players on annual retainer than other boards, Grade D pays a pittance of 20000£. I know Dhoni gets 10 million $ per year from just his sponsorship and IPL contract but BCCI payment for playing for India seems so low. What is the match fees these players get? The dailymail article says that the players gets 26% of BCCI revenue, which is the highest for any board, but how are the players getting it? Don't turn this into "BCCI are thieves" thread. I am just wondering how the players are getting the 26% cut in BCCI profits.

Fake. You really think BCCI openly flaunt thse details? I swear cricinfo had a article giving much larger numbers. The IPL debacle with the ownership is taking a million years to sort out. And those figures I believe are base contract prices. Meaning that much money is guaranteed, plus they get a additional fees each time they represent their country. Also remember only like two or so players get that 400k contract. Like ponting, but he has really shite endorsement deals so it evens out to be the same with other players from other countries.

This is just for the retainer contract .. it means even if one don't play a single match one is guaranteed to get this much .. The real money comes from match fees and sponsorships .. Since for all the Indian matches board get heavy fee .. this fee is than shared with all the players ..

Supply and demand. Simple as that. Will smith gets 100 million dollars while someone like josh brolin makes 1 million dollars per movie because will smiths movies makes 800 million dollars and Brolins movie tanks at the box office. BCCI made something around 300 million $ profits last year and obviously our international players should get according to that and not what an average Indian makes.

Mabe because you have so many contracted players, England only have 15 or so I think, also Indians make more from sponsorship and IPL than ther countries so it doesnt matter.

cricketers dont earn **** compared to soccer players, basketball players and other major sports stars. tendulkar's fortune won't even come close to say, tiger woods'. 60 lakh a year is what, $150,000? u can earn that working a job here in the US, some ppl on this forum probably do, and they can claim to be bigger earners than the indian cricketers :giggle: when u add endorsement, dhoni and tendulkar are still under 10 crore. so even if that makes them the highest paid cricketers in the world, they are nothing compared to guys in bigger sports

These figures arent accurate, i remember a few years back the grade A players like Kumble etc were on basic 100k+ which i still remember thinking wasnt enough, but as pointed out they make lots in sponsorship/IPL, so dont worry no one will go hungry tonight.

Besides some of the reasons already mentioned, the A contract players had taken a voluntary cut so that BCCI could contract more in the C and D categories.

You have to take into consideration the parity in purchasing power of the pound in various countries. The pay is not an issue at all for India/SL and even Pak players. So the reasons given by Lawson recently are no excuse for Pak cricketers to indulge in fixing.

BCCI is supposed to be non profit organization where is the rest of 74% going, Yes Players are making lot of money thru commericals or IPL but that is chump change compared to what deals the BCCI getting from tv rights and other sponsorships. These babus of BCCI are skimming off huge amounts to their own pockets which is sad as that money should be diverted to development of future players and building world class facilities, they damn closed MRF which was doing something for future of Indian cricket.
