Which 11 you reckon should play in the first test. Here's my team. If i were to pick this will be the team i would bank on to give a tough fight to the strong Indian line up. I think Aussies will go with the Xi you mentioned but for one change - Hauritz in place of Smith. By the way what happened to Haddin? I thought Haddin would be fit for the Indian tour. If I were the Aussie selector I would have dropped North and picked Hughes. Hughes to open along with Katich with Watson dropping down the order to no. 6 (North's spot).

Not his biggest fan. He's not done too well in first class cricket, does alright in the one dayers but scores too slow for my liking. I would much prefer Hughes/Jacques.

Think Hauritz will play instead of Smith. Giving Smith (who is young and in my opinion looks distinctly mediocre witht he ball) responsibility of leading the spin attack in sub-continent could be an awful gamble. But otherwise the same team as the OP. Aussie line-up isn't as strong as it once was but one of the strengths would be they know the composition of their line-up and know their strengths - it'll always be 6 batsmen with Paine at 7 Is P.Siddle injured? Do not know much about Hazlewood or George - who is the likely first pick if a frontline seamer is injured?

Watson Katich Ponting Clarke Hussey North Paine Johnson Hauritz Bollinger Hilfenhaus A very strong unit.Its just the spinner that is the weak link in the side, and i do think that Hauritz will take bulk of the wickets in the series because the Indians are going to go after him.IIRC Jason Krejza got 8 for 215 in Nagpur in his debut test in '08, the final Test of that series.So I wont be surprised if hauritz go through the same phase. Meanwhi;le Indian Line up should be like Sehwag Gambhir Dravid God Laxman Raina Dhoni Bhajji Mishra Zak Sreesanth Sreesanth i hope is fit enough to bowl in the series because he will be a key bowler when we tour South Africa.And Raina and Mishra ahead of Yuvi and Ojha.Thats the gamble i have taken, picking up a Leg spinner instead of another finger spinner.I know aussies are a bit more uncomfortable against leggies due to the extra bounce that a leggie can purchase out of the wicket.Yuvi left out due top inconsistent run in the limited chances he has got and OTOH Raina has done pretty well, i know he will be targeted by Short Pitched stuff,but i have faith in the young lad, he will surely be up for it

Surely on paper India is the much stronger side? Watson can give the Aussies a head start and Katich can be a pain, holding up one end but I don't see this Aussie batting troubling India too much. We all know how Ponting is in India, so I would not worry too much about him. Clarke is a danger-man, probaby their most dangerous batsman in the side for this series. Hopefully he will get back his form only in the Ashes, not before. Oh, and then there is Hussey. Another tough cookie. India need just one thing to happen. They need Bhajji to click. If he does, the Aussies are toast.

Mishra is not the leg spinner he was in 2008. Got tonked around in the corporate trophy, has bloated even further (Saw him 2 days back at a Restaurant), far from fit for even domestic cricket, looks so much like Romesh Powar these days. Needs to spend the next 2 weeks at NCA working on his fitness and knocking off the fat especially around his paunch. The line ups could be something like Katich, Watson, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, North, Paine, Hauritz, Jhonson, Bollinger, Hilfenhaus Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, SRT, VVS, Raina, Dhoni, Bhajji, Ojha, Zaheer, Ishant

I think that will be the Indian line-up. Right now, Ojha has his nose ahead of Mishra. I thought Ojha bowled quite well in Sri Lanka.
