saneindian Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Was reading this article on Cricinfo by Sid Monga on Zaheer's rehab at NCA. Not sure how old the news is but looks like Zaheer is not yet match fit. Should the BCCI not ask the NCA physio to first give him a fitness certificate before allowing him to play CL? Keeping the number of important test series we are going to play, should a 75% match fit Zah take the risk of getting into competitive cricket even when his rehab has not been completed?
ravishingravi Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Pardon my french but"f@#k" the CL. I want to beat Aus. Nothing can play down that feeling

IKnowU Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I wrecken he should play CL. Hes been out for a long time.....and a perfect warm up for the Tests agaist Oz by playing in CL.
Sachinism Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 As long as he is fit, bowling 4 overs a day will help him get back into rhythm
Lord Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 hope hes fit for Aus series.would be mad if injury aggravates in CL
Karan114 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Keeping the number of important test series we are going to play' date=' [b']should a 75% match fit Zah take the risk of getting into competitive cricket even when his rehab has not been completed? All depends on this, if he isn't yet ready to start bowling competitively then he shouldn't be playing. But if he is ready, then it will serve as a good way to ease himself back into top level cricket with the big series against the Aussies coming up.
Hindustani Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 T20 is no test of skills or to see fitness, if he is not fit, he should take rest. MI has bravo and others to bowl as second pacer
King Tendulkar Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I wrecken he should play CL. Hes been out for a long time.....and a perfect warm up for the Tests agaist Oz by playing in CL. Agree. If he has been fit and bowling well for 6 to 8 months then not playing would have been better. But he needs match practice. 4 overs a day will help him no ends as well as fielding again etc. Its a must for him to play so he can sharpen up
IKnowU Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 And if he gets injured and then hes not fit. No point blaming IPL when you cant even bowl 4 overs and field for 20 odd overs.
saneindian Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 Zaheer will be easily bowl the 4 overs. Its the fielding bit and the dives which concern me, he has never been a good fielder and god forbid if he lands heavily on that injured shoulder especially with the rehab not completely over, he could be gone forever. IIRC even during the IPL he got injured mid way and then rushed back without complete rehab to play in the semis and finals which forced him out for a further 3 months!
riwi999 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 If he is not fit, he should not be playing. Simple. I know it is only 4 overs but the last thing we want is that he injures himself further and has to sit out for a few months after the CL. We want Zak fit when we play the Aussies. I reckon Watson/Katich will murder the Ishant/Mithun combo.
achilles Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Its all about money, honey. A half-fit Fidel can chuck his rehabilitation programme to play for DC in the IPL. That speaks volumes about commitment. I don't mind Zak playing in the CL. But if he gets injured again and puts his world cup chances in jeopardy, is MI going to take responsibility for it?

Maybe he should try and make sure he could at least last a 20/20 game before trying to last ODI's and Test Cricket:dontknow:

Forget WC, we got the Aus test series straight after CL
achilles Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 :headshake: He never played when he was injured' date=' he had to skip last IPL cuz of injury[/quote'] Google why he lost his contract with the West Indies Cricket Board and return here to tell the tale :sherlock: Maybe he should try and make sure he could at least last a 20/20 game before trying to last ODI's and Test Cricket:dontknow: Bowling in the domestic circuit > bowling 4 overs a match. Forget WC' date=' we got the Aus test series straight after CL[/quote'] Imagine the state of Indian cricket if Zaheer injures himself again and/or aggravates the existing injury.
King Tendulkar Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Maybe he should try and make sure he could at least last a 20/20 game before trying to last ODI's and Test Cricket:dontknow: Exactly to jump straight from long trerm injury straight in to a test match is crazy. He must play a few matches before tests and if 20/20s are only games then so be it. If he cant handle a few 20/20s then no way is he ready for 18 overs a day in tests.
SachDan Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 How has your fitness been coming along? It's been good. Obviously I've been out for about eight weeks so I've had a tough time but I'm happy with the way the rehab of my shoulder has gone. I've been spending a lot of time in Bangalore, at the NCA - that's basically the National Cricket Academy for the Indian Cricket team - I've spent a lot of time there, and I'm fully fit now for the team. Are you looking at the Champions League as serving as a platform for you to get back to full fitness for the Indian team? It will be a perfect platform for me because we're playing the series against Australia so it's really important for me to build that bowling fitness now from here on because injury-wise I've recovered, but I still need to work on my bowling fitness and all other aspects of the game. So it will be a good opportunity for me to build that up slowly in a match situation because match intensity is something different to practice in the nets. Will you be opening the bowling with Lasith Malinga in the Champions League; what has that been like in the past? Yeah I will be opening the bowling with Malinga - it's been great, we've been bowling together for the last two years, and it's been fun. Because of the variety and different action he offers, your chances of getting wickets are obviously improved because batsmen are looking to attack you more than Malinga. What sort of other bowling combinations is the team experimenting with? During the last IPL season, Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) was opening the bowling with Malinga in a few games, and that's been good you know - the T20 format is such that you need to experiment a little in terms of bowling combinations and stuff. So yeah, we're open to it but at the same time, it's really important for us to play well here because it's a tournament in a foreign land so all the guys who are playing here for the first time are really excited to join the party. How important is your performance in the Champions League to you, as compared to the IPL? This is the first time I'm playing in the Champions League so this is something new for me right now so I'm looking forward to it. You know it's definitely going to be a different challenge because a lot of these other domestic teams like the Australian and South African domestic teams - we'll be playing against them for the first time. It's a different feeling because you're not sure about the players, what they've been doing; their strengths, weaknesses, so we've been doing an analysis of that as well, with the help of computer analysis to see which are the good players. What's it like being captained by Sachin Tendulkar in this format of the game? Well he's just a great model for anyone - he's been around for 21 years now. He leads by example, the way he prepares and goes about his business and the kind of excitement he has about playing the game itself - it's something to follow his footsteps [in regard to]. Everyone really enjoys his company; he's a really down to earth person so that really helps - he's really easy to get along with. In that sense it's been good and I'm fortunate enough to be playing alongside him for ten years now, for the Indian team. What do you know about your first opponents in this tournament, the Lions? It's going to be an exciting one - as I said we need to look into the players who've been doing well for them, with the help of video analysis and stuff like that, as we've not played against them much. There are a few guys who we have no idea about. We've not seen them play. It's nice to get the help of the technology these days to see their good knocks and assess them in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. Link
