I understand that in tests, Raina is not required to score of the bouncers, which is what he was trying to do here too, i.e. survive, but his basic technique against short pitched stuff is poor SOS to team management/coach/BCCI: help Raina improve his technique before he gets slotted amongst the likes of Bevan, Kambli and company. This is so imp that Raina should even consider taking a couple of months off to sort this out
He really needs to sort his short-ball technique out, else we have a sitting duck in our team every time we play on a bowler-friendly wicket. What makes his dismissal all the more shocking is that it was some unheard of bowler who successfully pwned him that too at the humble pace of 80MPH. Imagine what would happen against the likes of Dale, Morne and Co. who are waaaay superior bowlers than these domestic club cricketers.

Raina pwned by a 80Mph bouncer. :hysterical: Seems like GM needs ask to his coach to write a good report for him :hehe:
Are you suggesting that if a coach writes a good report for him, you will believe that the batsman will be able to play bouncers even if he doesnt have the ability?
What dope are you on' date=' brah? Ask GM... Raina is the right choice and he is going to decimate the Saffers on these pitches.[/quote'] I think you are the one who is on dope brah, no where have I said he is going to decimate the Saffers on their pitches. Don't put words in my mouth.

Welegedara to Raina, OUT, and Raina's carnage comes to an end. Wayamba will heave a collective sigh of relief here, coz he was headed for a CLT20 ton to go with his World T20 ton. Length ball on off stump, he moved away to leg side and looked to go up and over Mubarak and cover... did not quite get the height though and Mubarak leapt high inside the circle to haul it in. What an innings! SK Raina c Mubarak b Welegedara 87 (44b 6x4 6x6) SR: 197.72

That appears to be a cracker of an inning but I guess the surface was Centurian so high scores are expected. Vijay chipped in too! btw, Mendis and Wele's figures :giggle:
BAW Mendis 4 0 45 1 11.25 (1w)

UWMBCA Welegedara 4 0 47 2 11.75

His technique against the short pitched ball is far from satisfactory...though he is such an instinctive hooker/puller wonder if he should try the Steve Waugh strategy of complete defense against the bouncers if he wants to survive in those alien conditions...but more than Raina I'm worried about the great Sachin...hope he doesn't play Paul Harris like Lord Harris like he did the last time around:pray:

Raina Boy :hail: Agree that it was not a fast track Agree that SL bowled most of the spinners(or should i say Raina faced spinners for most part of his innings). Agree that SL quicks didn't pepper any short pitch stuff Still what an innings :hail:

How fair is it to Che Pujara to not get an Indian cap while a player who plays for the Indian skip's IPL team gets a chance to play tests and even captain the national team, despite being half the player Pujara is? What was the point of tokenism in dropping Raina in 2007 and then welcoming him with open arms after one good IPL? I would pick Badrinath over Raina. Just what wrong have Badri and Che done? Do they escape their chances just because they aren't matey with the selector or because the skip isn't their friend? Its not just the coaches who say that Che is a great batsman. You've yourself said it too. Check out his thread that you have posted in. It is not Che's fault that he hasn't got the chance to prove himself. The blame rests with the selectors and the captain to continue who back half-baked players over proven performers in the competitive longer formats of the game. I would be happy if Suresh does well. But I would pick Badri and Che over him ANY DAY.
I tell you Pujara will be a failure at international level like many others...Rathore, Debang Gandhi, Vijay Bhardwaj who all scored heavily in Domestic and struggled in International matches......whatever I saw him, for me he does not belong the international level...He is another Akash Chopra kind of a batsman, who does neither have many shots not the time to play his shots like all good to great batsmen have....he has lazy technique and does not have shots to back his lazy technique...Lets see..time will tell

He will do well in SA.....mark my words.
Lol. He might score a randumb 50 or 100 and then his boys will be back in full force. But yeah, scoring is imperative coz he's gonna be playing all the Tests even if he gets out on a duck in every inning on an 80mph bouncer. He has his perks. Hopelessly unfair to other deserving players but well, by playing him, the selectors obviously like to see him getting out to the bouncers and stuffzzz.
