dhoni is still one of the safest keepers around. but if u are looking for reasons as to why he drops the ball behind the stumps and cant collect cleanly, look no further than that broken finger he has been nursing for ages. the guy needs a break, but they are running him into the ground.

He was never in the class of NM or SK as a Keeper. He was an exceptional batting talent (in ODIs) that made others ignore his keeping skills. Dhoni was never a good keeper, the fact that disturbs me was that he never worked on his game to improve that. Here we have Sehwag, Dravid, Ganguly all had some problems in some version of the game. But they overcame it eventually by working on that. If not SG completely Atleast RD and Veeru did.

Oh come on mate, how many cricket matches must you have seen so far? 500? 600? Even 1000? Has there even a single test match where players don’t mistakes? That’s just the nature of the game dude. Trust me, if you want to see a cricket match where there is no mistake, you better watch one that is being produced by ‘EA Sports’ and not ‘Nimbus sports’. :giggle:

Ridiculous comment. Dhoni came into the team as a basher, when suddenly the whole batting line up turned to great form, he played the anchor role for the team. When Dhoni entered the team, his keeping skills were extremely poor, he's improved a ton since then

Which part you didnt get? Yes he was a good Odi Talent. Somone who can score quickly was Ideal for ODIs. And read my post again, i have said he was never a good keeper. I still dont get how your and mine words are different? And i Really dont think he has improved a bit.

ol’ days of silly nitpicking

Morris is either delusional or has a long way to go to learn about what is silly and what is costly in Test cricket. He has quoted some silly phrase, but has forgotten another 'silly' phrase 'Catches win matches'. And, no we are not talking abt some silly thing here. Like saneindian said we dropped a significant number of catches in the SL Test series, and we are doing it now against Aus. These are not silly mistakes, but these can cost us the Test win. On dodo pitches, people need to take even half-chances, and here the team is dropping laddu-catches (aka sitters) that should be certainly taken at this level. Not one catch but a series of them and some in a crucial First Session of a Test. Watson has made us pay 100 runs (2 or 3 chances?) and still counting! Who knows if that glorious 'opening batsman' who was once called not even an Allrounders a.h. by Jeff Thomson is going to rub it into us by scoring a 200 here! And :punter: was let off by Ishant Sharma's no-ball spree And while I did not see Paine's catch being dropped, I read abt it here. Aus could have been ALL OUT for 250 and here they are well capable of reaching 350-425 now. I hope you remember your own statement in the match thread that if they score more than 320-350, we are dead in this pitch. Silly nitpicking indeed Its the Test at stake. And regarding Sh.t happens, I agree yes, it does. But how many dropped catches? and we did this in SL too? There seems to be something really poor about our fielding than just saying Sh.t happens. Thats the difference. And, all those no-balls? Its just crazy and begs one to question the discipline and training and effort.

Regarding CSKD's keeping, it is indeed noticeable that his keeping standards have dropped. And, while Raina may have been good in the field, it does not mean that there was no deteriorating effect for CSKD in just arriving for a Test just one or two days before that. P_khota is right in stating that there is something called Test Preparation and Gayle was dismissive of it, and M$D arriving so late was certainly not the best Test prep. Ofcourse Bollinger and M.Hussey did it too, and Aussies were not too pleased either if you have read the reports. Someone was saying m$d was being ground to dust, he needs to speak up and ask for rest if he has niggles. But none of these guys including Harbhajan sit out IPL or CL, and then they are undercooked or having niggles for Test matches!!

I dont think he has improved, i have seen him drop sitters and miss easy stumpings in last year or so. Let alone the number of easy byes he gives away.

Well, for a long while I have been espousing the view that folks should not be underprepared for Tests and if need be they should skip the tontees. Dhoni played in IPL and then skipped SL Tests, and here he really looks fatigued just being back from csk matches. If you saw the match yesterday, Dhoni really did not look fit or agile. He seems just numbed from all the CL matches and just jetlagged and/or tired/fatigued and half-participating in this Test. If the CSK loss in the final or semis or group, is what I need to take in order to get India closer to a Test win over Aus - I will gladly trade that every single time. An alert and agile/fit Indian player for Tests is worth several times more than his participation in some tontee. Ok, I got the Paine drop info - will update the OP 84.5 Khan to Paine, no run, 86.9 mph, what happened there? Again movement away from Paine, he poked tentatively. Was there on edge on it? Dhoni did not collect cleanly as it died on him. A bit of noise as it passed Paine, but he did not seem to have got an edge. Replays suggest a really faint edge. So that is two drops from Dhoni today.
