This one is a tough comparison! In 1998, Tendulkar stamped his authority over the attacks. How he dealt with Australians, esp the Warne threat, was brilliant. On top of that he had that superb performances at Sharjah in ODIs In 2010, Tendulkar has matured like a fine wine. The shot selection is more thought out and when he is at the crease, you feel confident of him delivering. He is also on his way to get the most test runs in a calender year. In ODIs, he became the first one to score a 200 I would pick the 1998, simply because of his domination of attacks in Viv Richards fashion and also because he carried the burden of Indian batting on his shoulders a lot. Not that in 2010, he doesn't carry the burden but it is a lot lighter with the likes of Sehwag, Dravid and Laxman around. Sehwag and Laxman have been in terrific form as well.

The 98 version. He never allowed a bowler to dominate him in those days. Can't reember him playing consecutive maiden to bowlers in those days. The best part was the better the quality of bowling and tougher the conditions, more dominating Sachin became. The on side flick over square leg, dacing down the wickets to spinners, the ferocious cuts and pulls..aah those memories. Sachin of 2010 is wiser and pragmatic, more calculated, would not mind playing out a passage of play where he will let the over be on top, can play the waiting game to perfection. Yet the 1998 remains superior for me, but only just.

Won us some 6-7 finals during 96-98!!
Umm well its just my prefernce. I think SRT can win us the 2011 WC. Still would like to know apart from the Sharjah one which ones he won then (Featuring Non-Minnows). My memory is pretty Poor.

Titan cup final in 96, 95 in the Independence cup 1st final (IMO its a very underrated knock of Sachin) vs Pakistan, 128 vs Sri Lanka in 98 after the Sharjah win just to name a few.

His strike rate now is noticeably better now than it was around 1998.
That maybe correct. But somehow I feel in 1996-98 some of the knocks he played the 155* vs Aussies, 177 vs the Aussies at Bangalore, 169 vs the Saffers, those Sharjah knocks, knocks during the Titan cup etc were all scored at a very healthy strike rate. And its those memories which give me the perception that he was much more free flowing in those days.

Definately version 1998, Sachin of 2010 needs a start but the sachin of 1998 was red hot all the time. I would pitch 1996-1998 dominance vs 2007-2010 resurgence.

I prefer the 2010 version because well, I only started avidly watching in the new millennium and more importantly there are many batsmen who can be in sizzling form when they are in mid-20s, but only Tendulkar can be this good at his present age. :hail:

Cant decide at all. But if forced to pick one, then maybe 98 version. Didnt need break frm cricket as nowadays. Was at his destructive best. these days hez prolly a little more solid than 98. Love both versions.
