ViruRulez Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 MUMBAI: Major drama unfolded at the civic-run KEM Hospital on Tuesday morning after the mother of one-and-a-half-month-old twins raised an alarm saying her baby girl had been stolen. Chaotic scenes ensued as nurses, ward boys and security guards ran helter-skelter trying to nab the 'baby-snatcher' in the hope that he/she could not have gone far. But what followed in the next 15 minutes shocked everyone. CCTV camera images showed that the mother, Deepika Parmar, had the girl child in her arms while leaving paediatric ward No. 2 around 4.55 am. But she returned to her cot about 25 minutes later without the infant. Soon, everyone stopped their hunt for the 'culprit' and the mother—who was crying inconsolably, clutching her son (the other twin) close to her—became the prime suspect. Finding her behaviour odd, the hospital's security interrogated Deepika even as the Bhoiwada police arrived. Their suspicions grew stronger as she could not give a proper description of the infant's clothes. Within minutes of the questioning, the mother confessed: she had thrown her infant daughter out of the bathroom window. Around the same time, security guards found the infant (only slightly bigger than an adult's palm) outside, lying on a pile of dirty linen and mossy, green water, just under the bathroom window. The guards rushed the wailing baby to the casualty ward. Dean of KEM Hospital, Dr Sanjay Oak, who had also examined the child, said she was bleeding profusely and had a large injury mark on the right side of her skull. She must have had some internal injuries as well, Oak said, adding that the infant's body temperature had fallen to dangerous levels and she could not be saved. An eyewitness said rats had possibly eaten away a portion of her right ear. The baby succumbed to her injuries five hours later, around 10.30 am. In her statement to the police, Deepika said she was fed up of her newborns suffering constantly since their premature birth at seven months. The twins were born in a private nursing home and later shifted to Cooper Hospital, before they were admitted to KEM on October 19. Both babies were anaemic and were kept in incubators. Father Manish, a tailor, seemed lost as he said the couple had desperately wanted children after Deepika had had two miscarriages before this pregnancy. Police did not arrest Deepika till late in the evening as she had to breastfeed her baby boy."We have booked her under IPC 317 that deals with abandoning a baby in an infectious environment. Preliminary interrogation says she was tired of the children's ill-health,'' said Vikram Patil, senior police inspector of Bhoiwada police station. Based on the postmortem report, charges could be pressed against the mother, he said. Speculation was rife about the mother's mental state, although Dr Oak said she had had the composure to pick up the girl child. Police also said Deepika had enough sense to remove a glass pane from the window to throw the child out."Anyone has to be conscious to do that,'' an officer said. When asked about the incident, Deepika seemed oblivious to things and refused to speak. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/CCTV-nails-mom-tossing-baby-girl-out-of-KEM-toilet/articleshow/6818772.cms

DomainK Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 A sad story of an unfortunate baby I read this on today's TOI: A new born girl, one of a twin pair of a boy and a girl was reported missing by a howling mother. The hospital staff panicked and a frantic search started. Following the recent cases of kidnappings, they were looking for men or women who might have run away with the baby. Then the security camera footage showed the mother walk out with the baby and comeback empty handed just before reporting the baby missing. When the police and hospital staff grilled her, she admitted that she had taken the baby to the toilet and had thrown her out of the window. Just about the time she was confessing, the security guards located the baby in critical conditions. Rats had started eating her ear, she had suffered injuries and her body temperature was critically low. The doctors could not save her. The mother has been booked under some act with something to do with abandoning a baby and want to investigate more before pressing other charges. The twins were born prematurely and were facing health issues. The mother says she could not endure her sufferings and decided to get rid of her.

flamy Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Feel sorry for the mother of the child, she had to take the extreme step...a very similar topic was here on CC a while ago where a unmariried Indian girl had delivered & abandoned her newborn in the Aeroplane toilet...some posters went crazy here calling her names & some odd posters also specified her as 'Punjabi' in their posts as if to say that rest of Indians are a sacred bunch..however so far no one ever said that this lady is a Mumbaite, why? just coz she is a hindu :dontknow: truth is..humans driven to extreme situations will do such things, no matter from which part of our country they belong to. maybe her hubby is punjabi :dontknow:
beetle Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Why the eff do such people have children? If God knows all...why does he give such people this opportunity?

beetle Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 In this case the women selectively picked up the girl to kill. This is not a case of Postpartum depression or any other mental condition.Even her explanation that she was fed up of watching her kids suffer doesn't hold ground here.In that case how is it that she only chose the daughter? This is a clear case of selective gender based cold blooded murder.Just like millions that have happened and are happening every day in this effed up country of ours.

CSK Fan Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 A news item from today http://gulfnews.com/news/world/usa/woman-kills-baby-for-interrupting-her-facebook-session-1.703587 Woman kills baby for interrupting her Facebook session Miami: A north Florida mother has pleaded guilty to shaking her baby to death after the boy's crying interrupted her game on Facebook. Alexandra V. Tobias pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday and remains jailed. The Florida Times-Union reports that she told investigators she was angered because the three-month-old boy was crying while she was playing the game FarmVille. The paper also reports that she told investigators she shook the boy, smoked a cigarette to compose herself and then shook him again. She will be sentenced in December. State guidelines call for 25 to 50 years, but a prosecutor said it could be shorter than that. FarmVille-maker Zynga has not released an official statement about this tragedy.
DomainK Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 ^^ I have a feeling that the mother is not very old. Teenage single mothers is a huge problem in the west.
