seedhi Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Harry Potter blamed for India's owl crisis NEW DELHI: Environment minister Jairam Ramesh has blamed fans of Harry Potter for the demise of wild owls in the country as children seek to emulate the boy wizard by taking the birds as pets. The hit books and films, which are popular in India, feature a snowy owl called Hedwig who is a feathered sidekick for the Potter character and used to deliver mail. "Following Harry Potter, there seems to be a strange fascination even among the urban middle classes for presenting their children with owls," Ramesh said on Wednesday, according to comments reported by the BBC. His remarks came as wildlife group Traffic presented a report called "Imperilled Custodians of the Night" which warned about the declining owl population in India. Researchers found that a growing number of owls were being trapped, traded or killed in black magic rituals. Traffic called for tougher measures to protect the bird ahead of Diwali, one of the biggest Hindu festivals, which starts on Friday. He has criticized Home Minister Chidambaram in China in front of a Chinese audience as well. Such gaffes are not unusual for him.

These two seem to pulling down India and its development at every opportunity. Some really pathetic decisions of Jairam Ramesh besides this absurd statement are to voice his opinion against the limestone mines in Orissa and against India's largest hydroelectric dam proposed in Arunachal Pradesh. Insane ministers for sure.

He has a clean image without doubt but he seems to be really worshiping the environment instead of development. He is being too sincere in the environment ministry and stopping loads of developmental projects for the sake of his mental (oops I mean environmental) responsibilities.

One day my cousins bought a owl shaped clock and dey didnt like it so dey gave us and said u can have it and it will look good in ur home my mom took it but wen my big bro found out he said owls r very manhoos so return dem but my mom said it happens wit real owl not this fake clock then wat happen next was dat my dad didnt earn anything for 2 weeks straight and all his friend wondering y it happening to him den my mom thought mayb it was the clock den she removed it and wen she did my dad got a 250 dollar job on dat day and then next morning we happily gave dem thier manhoos clock back, the end.
