The bookies targetted superstar Haider of all people in the Pak XI ? Not Razzaq/Afridi/Hafeez (they bat & bowl in every game) but this lad who makes Kamran Akmal's absence felt ? Of course the story is so credible :--D
How on earth do y0ou know the bookies didnt approach the guys you named? Knowing Pak team anything is possible. Zoni would not have just run away if he had not suspected other team mebers and Pak management to be involved

The traditional route will be a loooooong drawn process that might take years.. If you get asylum, things are lot more fast-tracked. I am not sure how this exactly works in the UK, but if you generally get asylum in a country, then the state will support you economically. Besides, I don’t think you can bring your entire family over if you there as an overseas player. Notice how he’s conjured up these stories about his family has received threats as well? .
Its not that difficult to get a UK visa and get a job there. The state might support him economically but it will still be only about 10% of what he would earn through cricket as he is pretty young with a long career ahead. On top of that he has made enemies in his country and earned a bad name. What you claim does not make any sense at all I have a feeling he is holding his cards close to his chest and will give names only in exchange for asylum. He is withholding the information waiting for the right time

I'm just not fully convinced, he might be true. If that is the case, what you're suggesting (and is logical) is that current Pak players are at least in touch if not working with the bookies. That's after the spot fixing fiasco :cantstop:

I bought up the issue of state support only to indicate that he will get some hand-out, even if he gets no job at all. I think he’s trying to go the Henry Olonga route, who fled to the UK immediately after wearing black arm bands in an international game, protesting the Mugabe regime. He got some gig in some local/divison two cricket club. Haider is good enough to do that as well.

Look, nobody flees the country after receiving ONE threat, especially when his descritpion of his alleged stalker sounds so shallow and fake. Plus, just like how many others have mentioned, why would the bookies target him alone, leaving out the others? Even assuming they targeted other players as well, why havent they fled the country? In every which way, his whole story about the alleged stalker bookie does not add up at all!

I am not even sure what you mean by ‘in exchange for asylum..’ The UK govt. has little interest on who targeted or didn’t target a Pakistani cricketer. But, when a Pakistani cricketer claims asylum for himself and his family in their country citing threats from book-makers, it is incumbent upon Haider (and his lawyers) to prove that those threats are a) real and b)credible enough to warrant an asylum status in a foreign country. There's no 'You (UK) give me asylum and I (Haider) will tell you who threatened me..'.. There's only 'I (UK) will give asylum only if you prove to me you received threats and those threats are dangerous enough..'

Gone are those days when getting a visa and job in UK was easy. You need to be highly skilled and have so many other factors in place before you can get a visa these days to UK and even that route is now rationed i.e. there is a quota for the number of visas being issued.

Haider asylum bid would require whistleblowing

Any hopes that Zulqarnain Haider may have of seeking asylum in the United Kingdom would appear to hinge on the nature of the information he is able to divulge into the Pakistan match-fixing scandal, because the extraordinary nature of his case would appear to fall outside the usual conditions required of a person seeking refugee status. Article 1 of the 1951 Refugee Convention defines a refugee as "a person who is outside his or her country of nationality or habitual residence; has a well-founded fear of persecution because of his or her race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion; and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of that country, or to return there, for fear of persecution." The "fear" in Haider's case - namely the threat of reprisals from criminal gangs involved in match-fixing - does not appear to fall into the usual categories. Therefore the question is whether that fear is objectively well-founded and, perhaps more to the point in his case, whether the Pakistan state would be able to protect him. "He would need to show that the arms of the state would not be able to protect him, and therefore that the British government needs to step in and offer international protection," a British immigration barrister told ESPNcricinfo. "Whether people are at risk from criminal gangs is a bit of an open question in asylum law. It would be very much dependant on the fact of what he could prove, both about what had happened to him personally, and more generally with match-fixing in Pakistan." In coming to the UK, Haider could also be protected under the European Convention of Human Rights which, according to the terms of a court ruling from March 2000, prevents the automatic extradition of unsuccessful asylum applicants, regardless of who is the agent of persecution. But once again, that would depend on him proving he is at risk. Neither Dubai nor Pakistan are signatories of the Refugee Convention.

Yea, but shouldn’t you technically be traveling on the stated intent of the visa, for you to be let in? How can he claim he’s there on a sport(?) visa, when its pretty clear he isn’t coming to play any sports? Boy this is all so messed up. The guy plays a winning hand for his country, claims he received threats to himself and his family and runs away without supposedly even informing his team. The PCB press release says the passports of the players are generally with the team management, but Haider had ‘asked for it and they had given it to them..’ How believable is that? Didn’t they suspect of anything when he asked for his passport? Either there’s something sinister going on behind the scenes or this guy is just plain loony.
Because Pak was hosted by englad in the recent times, they have visa other than sports multi-category so that they can prepare for each tour.

He is one dumb lying cheat who actually let his team & country down :headshake: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/other_international/pakistan/9170707.stm
BBC has an Interview from the Grand Old Man of Match Fixing Asif Iqbal where he brings in India V SriLanka (Suresh Raina Case) and also starts the new Paki tune "Young Cricketers are getting Threats" which implies Asif, Butt and Amir fixed cos of threats....so shd be lightly dealt with... Cricket is Verily Fkd

this has got to be the phaassttest un-retire of Pak/World cricket. btw no blaming on IPL yet ? The Pakis could say that India did not allow them to play in IPL and this forced them to indulge in such dramebaazi for a better life in England. Thus, India is responsible for this drama, Zoni is innocent.

Check this scoreboard This proves fixing, Butt,Amir,Riaz,Kamran Akmal played in this match http://www.cricinfo.com/pakdomestic/engine/current/match/392532.html
Zulqi was sacked as captain because he refused certain players. Someone's relative was made captain and someone else's relative was bought in as a bowler who gave 20+ runs in each over and yet was allowed to go on for 3 overs :haha: I'm surprised no alarm bells started ringing with the PCB

PCB investigated but did not find anything :haha: That guy who gave 78 runs in 3 overs never ever played another game in domestic cricket. Salman Butt's teams needed a massive increase of their run rate to go through, which was impossible but they managed it :haha:
