CoverDrive Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Candidates. Eknath Solkar - Never seen him but was supposed to be very good close in Azhar - Never did a lot of diving around but always seem to be quick to reach the ball. Used to take some really great outfield catches in his early days Jadeja - Another one to stand out in the field. My early cricketing memories include his awesome catch of Border in the 92 WC Yuvraj - Even though now he is past it in terms of fitness he has taken some of the most spectacular catches Kaif - Again known fro his fielding though he did move a lot and was not a very good close in catcher Raina - He is probably the best fielder currently but have not seen a lot of extraordinary catches from him My vote would probably go to Azhar - If only Yuvraj had maintained his fitness levels he could have done so much more
fineleg Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Very disappointed with Yuvi. Once upon a time, Yuvi,Kaif,Raina manned the offside cordon and it was a sight to behold. Now Yuvi is terribly unfit, Raina is good but not as great as he was before, and Kaif is fit but out of the side. Rohit Sharma was good when he came on, and now he's become a blob. I hope Raina and Virat Kohli will continue to do good. Hope so. Azhar and Kaif the best. Havent seen Solkar, but he is supposed to be brilliant close-in
Hindustani Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 haven't seen the azhar era as was too young but ya, haven't seen him dropping too many catches or doing misfield, Kaif was probably only in the team for fielding, Add Kohli too, he is an excellent fielder
saneindian Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Azhar has to be the best. Was brilliant in the ring and awesome in the slips. Early on used to field in the deep and was extremely nimble footed. At a time when we used to to crave for seeing our fielders hit the stumps and get run outs, Azhar was the only hope we had! Kaif for me was a better fielder than Yuvi as he was equally good in the ring and outfield. Yuvi was more flamboyant and took some blinders but Kaif had a better accuracy and a more swift mover than Yuvi.

ZodiaC Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Haven't seen much of fixheruddin either, but from what I've seen got to be Kaif. He's worth playing in the side purely as fielder - that good he is. Yuvi comes second, but just.
Sid Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 its too early he hasnt even played a good number of matches whats fielding got to do with with playing good no. of matches?
ZodiaC Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Akash Chopra was a pretty good short leg, IIRC.
achilles Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Robin Singh. Excellent at every position :isalute:
King Tendulkar Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Laxy and Dravid are top class slippers
vamos_rafa Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Laxy and Dravid are top class slippers You can include Azhar in that as well. Even Sunil Gavaskar was a very decent slip fielder.

Ranjha Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Best fielders for India were: Robin Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Kaif. Its hard to pick one.
Clarke Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Was Kaif this brilliant ? Jadeja was pretty darn good among the fielders i have seen.
Ram Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 WTF, how can we have this discussion without Jonty Singh's name in the mix? :omg:
