Dhoni and Harbhajan unhappy with nature of Indian pitches

Funny just 5 days ago, he was happy with the pitch. http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-new-zealand-2010/content/story/486896.html Why the sudden change of mind? :hmmm:

"This is a good wicket for Test cricket," he said. "There is good bounce for fast bowlers, even for spinners. If you bowl slower in the air, there is bounce and so far, it has played pretty well. I hope it will continue to play even better for the bowlers as the days go on. On the third and fourth days, it might spin, it might not. But definitely, there is bounce."

why hasnt Zaheer Khan ever slammed pitches?if anything the pitches are more against pacers than spinners.its because hes used his experience to adjust.Bhajji hasnt.while most spinners get better with age,Bhajji's got worse.the minute he doesn't get wickets, blame the pitch.he praised the same pitch wen he got wickets on 2nd day,now it has become national highway coz he can't get wickets.its seems like he believes his every performance depends on pitch, not him

These type of tracks don't suit Bhajji's bowling' date=' atleast he contributed with the bat[/quote'] bhajan needs dark-side-of-the-moon pitches to grab a 5-fer.. but then he would slam the pitch again when he gets dismissed for ducks..

Maybe spin bowling is NOT our strength anymore :dontknow:
Actually, that is a solid case. Bhajji is not the matchwinner he once was, Ojha is not a run thru the side bowler. Mishy is a leggie and with leggies it is either run thru or get run over. I was very hopeful about Chawla's development...why is the guy not in the Test team...too young, ya reckon? Any other spin options that we have?

Why are a few people slamming an Indian player, for asking for conditons that suit an Indian style of play? Will Aussies slam a Ricky Ponting for asking for a bouncy and pacy Gabba pitch? And lets keep one thing in perspective here - When we ask for spin-friendly conditions, its not like we're are trying to cheat. It isnt as though the pitch will aid spin when we're bowling and will replaced with a batting beauty when we bat. The pitch is same for both the teams, the conditions are same for both the teams. The Indian team thinks it has an excellent chance of exploiting the conditions to its advantage. However, if the opposition team thinks they're good enough to either stand-up to those conditions or even exploit them, more power to them. Bottom line - Asking for conditions that aid the home team isnt under-handed tactics, it is what every home team is absolutely and fully entitled to do. There's no joy in preparing pitches so docile that it might even put the batsmen to sleep. The only possible way a result can eeked out of such conditions is if one of the team collpases in its 2nd innings. And even then, the result isnt a guarantee, like India showed in the 2nd innings. I dont think i have ever seen a 7th wicket p'ship bat out nearly an entire day on day 5, especially when the top order went missing and the team was reduced to 65-6!

the problem isnt with asking for favourable wickets?its slamming after a bad performance, same Bhajji was happy with the same pitch wen he got wickets in 1st innings but wen he couldnt in 2nd innings it became dead?why change of opinion why cant he stand firm on his stance?

So it wasn’t as though he had a mid-course correction on this whole issue.

Dude, don’t side-step the issue. The topic is not whether Bhajji’s statements to the media have been consistent throughout or not (they probably are not, but that isn’t the point), it is whether we’re maximing our advantage at home. That is what I am concerned about, not who said what when.

Why would they complain? They’re benifitting from the current docile conditions. Do you think Kiwi coach Mark Greatbatch would ever come on an Indian tour and say ‘Well, we need more assistance for the spinners..’? :giggle: The opposition teams know that their best bet on Indian conditions is to have pitches that do not assist the spinners as much, but have something in it for the pacers. If they cant get conditions that suit their style of bowling, they’ll be more than happy to bat on flat tracks that offer no help whatsoever to our spinners. Plus visiting teams have no busines wailing about the adverse conditions they face when tour other countries. Of course, that doesnt mean the home team prepares horrendous pitches that simply make a mockery of the concept of battle b/w bat and ball, but by and large, all hosts have the full rights to have playing conditions that favor them.

they had us 65-6 in first test n then couldnt take 7th until it was too late, why do u think they didnt complain of lack of turn on 5th day that could've won the game? thier main bowler is Vettori so they wouldnt mind pitches asisting spin, would they?:winky:

When kiwi bowlers and coaches have called these pitches flat , no one's has had a problem, but because Bhajji hasn't taken a wicket, he should not be stating the facts!! Use the same principal and should our batsmen have kept quite after the debacle in NZ before the 2003 WC because they had failed on those pitches?

We wont know until we give our spinners something to work with. But preparing sheer roads and then slamming our bowlers for not bowling well doesnt make too much sense either.

Well, thats exactly what I am saying. Lets prepare pitches with more assistance for the spinners because that gives us an automatic advantage since a) we have reasonable spinners and b)our batsmen are a lot more accomplished at handling the turning ball, but if the opposition thinks they can exploit the conditions as well, good luck to them. Maybe the best man team win! :winky:

A game that ends on the 4th day is fine by me. And I'd rather have such pitches than watch a 5 day batathon.
thier main bowler is Vettori so they wouldnt mind pitches asisting spin' date='would they?:winky:[/quote']oh no...Vettori is no Murali. Even Murali could not do much on Indian spinning tracks...overseas spinners, have rarely got something from the Indian pitches in the last 20 yrs...except Saqi. And NZ would much rather prefer playing on a docile track than a spin track versus us immaterial of whether they have 11 Daniel Vettoris in the team or just one. The fact is that even if you combine the greatest spinners in the last 20 yrs (except saqi) and ask them to bowl to our line-up on Indian pitches, we will do well. That is one area where except Saqi no one has had any significant influence for themselves. yes there have been the odd Clarke 6 for 9 but nah no spinners can do any damage to these guys at Home...bar Saqi.
