If BJP wants to have any chance it has to be Narendra Modi. That will be a game changer. Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley are no hopers with zero mass base and are a sure shot recipe for disaster for BJP.

Fair enough.........I should'nt have used that word. But as CM it was his responsibility to try and control the situation rather than encourage violance. In May 2009 one of the Gujarat Govt's ministers was arrested for leading a group of rioters-I don't think a minister would dare to do such a thing against the orders of the CM. Many of the top police officials/IAS officers have come on record saying that they were ordered NOT to take action or at least to delay it. Also, why have various Govts around the world refused him VISA? Yes he has done a lot of development over the past 5-6 years but if he is in any way responsible for what happened in 2002 then he should not be eligible to become the PM ever.
Wow.....so what about our current government??? What did it do while more than 7-8000 sikhs were killed in 1984?? They not only killed but entire system was in that motion. Voters lists, Ration lists, from schools. Oh man. How hypocrites are we going to get. I agree, if Modi is proven guilty then he should step out and be punished. But rewarding congress for similar crime is a hight of hypocracy. I dont really understand indian voters at all. Majority of them are blind. If they can come to power, why not Modi??? Not that I support either..Violence is hard to justify.

there's no smoke without fire my friend. If everyone-his state policemen, IAS officers, opposition parties, media, human right organizations, foreign Govts and even some members of his own party are saying things that point towards what I mentioned in my earlier post then there's got to be some substance in it.

Indeed it is hypocracy.

So Modi, after doing wrong has the right to be in power just because the Congress, after doing wrong got the chance to be in power. Thats like saying two wrongs make a right. Its now really for the Indian voters to see that such people/parties (be it Modi or Congress) don't come to power and are not rewarded for crimes.

You go to understand the history of Gujarat. Before Modi there were riots in Gujarat under Congress. I remember vividly around 2000 Sonia Gandhi visited Ahmedabad and she was wooing Muslims, some loonies burned indian flags and there was riots in Ahmedabad. Remember modi was not there. As I said you go to read and research, there is always two sides to it. Just check out how many policemen were dead, how many hindus were shot by police, how soon was army called up..Just check those facts...

shivraj chauhan is also there. i think you did't know what sushma have, she has big support inside bjp. modi possess pm qualities, but he is no acceptable everywhere. in some part of india there is too much hatred against him. modi is very highlighted person of indian politics. if he is projected as a PM than BJP can't come into power at center.

Nitish Kumar And I am not joking at all. Both BJP and Congress do not seem to have good politicians with mass appeal and absolutely clean image who can sustain in the next elections. People are fed up with the corruption and divisive politics of all these parties and the Mayawatis and Jayalalitas are even worse. From the BJP side, Sushma Swaraj is a manipulating and archaic politician who hardly knows to play politics and keeps on getting in controversies a lot. Arun Jaitley is not any better too with a lot of contradicting statements and infighting. Narendra Modi would never become PM to be frank and it would be a huge blunder if they project him as PM as they will lose due to his image outside Gujarat. From the Congress side, Rahul Gandhi is the prime PM candidate but is fading away nearly as quickly as he rose to public attention. His not joining the cabinet also did not help much as he is not seen much as a man of responsibilities. However, he is still the biggest prospect from both the Congress and BJP combined with the highest chances. Amongst the rest, MMS would still have gotten the vote perhaps but I doubt he can sustain another term as PM especially with his fading age. Pranab Mukherjee might have been a good contender especially with his strong and intellectual image but he wont be projected by Congress as the PM candidate IMO as they would push for Rahul Gandhi. People are more or less fed up with most of the leaders from both these parties and the accusations of corruption on leaders of both the parties. I for one have always said that there is strong need for a new politics who do not indulge in votebank politics, religious politics, caste politics, regional politics or any kind of divisive politics and which is free from corruption and only interested in the development and unity of this great nation. But I do not see any such political party emerging and rising to national level just in a couple of years before the next elections. So, my best bet as of now would be Nitish Kumar. I am not sure if NDA would be clever enough to use this master stroke as Nitish is perhaps the only leader with an extremely clean image and mass appeal for nearly all Indians at this point of time. If they project him as PM before the elections itself then NDA might get votes across all religious, caste, creed and party lines and only based on development. But I doubt NDA is that brilliant to play that master stroke. If they dont project Nitish Kumar as next PM candidate then I dont see anybody else from NDA giving any close competition to Rahul Gandhi as BJP and NDA is not left with any good leader with mass appeal. However, Arun Jaitley said yesterday that he might not mind Nitish Kumar as the next PM when asked by Prannoy Roy on NDTV and I hope he was serious about it.

Nitish Kumar is a nonstarter as NDA PM candidate. No self respecting BJP worker will ever campaign for him .. and loyal BJP voters would probably not even vote. No one excites the BJP worker and loyal voter more than Narendra Modi. He is the way to go.

But Gujrat riots where one of the worst in india and being Chief Minister, it was Modi's responsibility to maintain law and order in which he failed. Also, usually riots are tw-sided and not one-sided. the fact that both Punjab(84) Gujrat were one sided riots, prove the involvement of some sort of state machienary. I dont care how much economic progress Modi, can bring, I dont want him as a PM for my country. As for nothing being proved against him, he is the most powerful man in Gujrat, what do you think can come against him? His cronies will be ready to take the fall before him. the timings of the riots were so right for him to come into power. On the day he was re-elected, part of Gujrati's soul died

Interesting thoughts .. one problem though, how does Modi & co. manage 272 ?

Interesting thoughts .. one problem though' date=' how does Modi & co. manage 272 ?[/quote'] Modi can't manage 272 because he will not be acceptable to other coalition partners-recently in the Bihar election also Nitish Kumar did'nt allow him to campaign so I can't see any way in which he/other coalition partners will accept him. Only someone like Arun Jaitlely might be acceptable to partners of BJP.

Well, if we believe the theory that the fire in side the train started because of a candle lit by someone inside the train then yes it was one sided. 1984 was absolutely politically charged. It was not religious. I dont believe in supporting violence in anyway. And I mean either side. Gujrath was not anyday, one sided.

But it could have been controlled had Modi taken the initiative to maintain law and order.
