My catching from significant heights is quite frankly a disgrace...I am one of those fielders who would actively run away from a ball given the chance.
LOL! You have company in me :winky:

Oh yeah...what happened to that guy? You are referring to that chap RR was supposed to sing up ...a special coach worked on him with some special training and action and all....javelin throw run up?
lol, Atul and his coach made an ullu out of most fans... yeah that javelin throw run up is quite effective for pace... though I can't bowl a long spelll....

Oh yeah...I never wore a thigh pad and arm guard. And when I was playing when in college I never wore a helmet...could not afford to buy one. First time I wore a helmet was when I played for my corporate team in 2001. But after playing 2 balls I removed the vizer (?)...just could not see the ball! How do you guys manage to see thru that grill yaar?
I never play without a helmet..even against spinners..cause I tend to sweep and I'm always vary of top edge straight into my face (cause I witnessed someone cop one like that before..) And I'm thankful for it too..I've once been clonked on the helment by a quick..my ears were ringing throughout the match after that...I can only imagine being hit without a helmet (it'd be goodbye cruel world)..

Used to be a middle order batsman...coached by Ramakant Achrekar. (This was the time when Agarkar too was a batsman who could bowl well). The happiest moment of my cricketing life was when Achrekar told me that I was a natural (and awarded me a scholarship which I wasted on lots of wada pavs :) I used to love cutting/steering deliveries pitched on middle &off. Loved fielding at point (maintaining concentration in slips was really difficult). I used to bowl off spin with leather ball. Loved bowling pace with a round arm action with tennis balls. Have given up leather ball cricket altogether now (mostly because of the fear of getting injured). Love playing with taped tennis balls that swing-a-mile. It makes you feel humble, and ignites a passion to improve.

Are you able to stand fairly close to the stumps against a pace bowler while keeping? My team keeper stands significantly closer to the stumps while keeping when he has all his guards on but otherwise he will stand at half a ground distance. I have done a little bit of keeping myself and I must say that it's just as tiresome as bowling with a long run up. You are basically jumping around for the whole game. Wear the abdominal guard though...It will help someday :--D For helmet, you can try baseball catcher's helmet. You might like it. Dinesh Karthik wears it while keeping if you have noticed.
That is the key. If someone plays on front foot and attack your main bowler, you gotta do that. I aint talking about anything beyond 120K. Playing w/o Abdo is most scary though. I was only hit once with the tennis ball while batting. I mostly hurt my fingers, the knots got firm.

Right Arm bowler - Seamer Right hand bat - Team don't trust my batting, and never given proper chance . Sometimes 7th Down, sometimes come in as no. 11 after coming here in U.S in India I was more of a special middle order bat who could bowl well.
I can attest to it :-) You have become a much better bowler in the last 3 years, and batsman too (if that six you hit straight down the ground 85 yards away was any indication).
