thats simply because chess is nowhere close to cricket (or for that matter even tennis or football) in terms of popularity in India, but this guy is an amazing sportsperson and deserves more respect and recognition in India.

To be honest, I don’t think it’s that misplaced to claim that Sachin could be the greatest cricketer ever. If you consider his cricketing exploits in conjunction with all the pulls and pushes of the modern-day era sports, the kinds of pressures and celebrity status he has had to endure and the way he has responded to it like a perfect icon/role-model, Sachin could well be the greatest cricketer of all time. I think it is pretty safe to say that Sachin, at an individual level, has had to deal with more expectations and frenzied fan-following than any other sporting superstar in all the history of sports. Of course, there are several other elite athletes who have matched, even surpassed his levels of performances in other sporting disciplines, but not one of them has had to carry the cumulative weight of the expectations of several 100 million mad cricket followers. If you put this context, in addition to exploits on the field, a case could well be made for him being the greatest cricketer of all time. Greatest batsmen? Well, that argument is sure to keep raging for decades to come, unless of course his career suddenly plateaus or even goes downhill in his remaining years in test cricket.

Greatest Cricketer ever is Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi *respect* Just look at him, The Beast is worshiped by Millions of Pakistanis in Pakistan, and Billions of Pakistanis in U.K, oooomph this is not even debatable, he is simply the greatest, in fact I dare say that he is one notch ahead of the so called "Greatest Cricketer".Handling some chuckers, cheaters, mowglis and fixers in the team being the most respected person in the country (even more than the PM :P ) and last but not the least, the captain to retire and unretire for the country for more than 4 times, is simply remarkable. I doubt if anyone can beat him on that.He in fact, even resorted to ball eating for the sake of his country, without even thinking about the consequences, that it may result in.People call him -A retard, I call him a true Legend who has love for his country filled in every corner of his heart.

How about the case of Ponting? He has 25k+ runs with almost 70 100's and on top of that he had been captaining his side for 7 years and has 208 wins as skipper (160 ODI + 48Test) in international games the most in the history of the game that also includes 2 WC leading ventures. Remember we are talking about the greatest cricketer ever here and captaincy is one of the components that counts towards making someone a great cricketer along with their individual skills ( batting, bowling and fielding). After all the burdens of a captaincy can heavily weigh in on an individuals on field performance. On that account Ponting's 208 wins and 7 years at the helm to go along with 25k+ runs and almost 70 centuries makes a compelling case for the greatest cricketer ever along with players like Tendulkar and a few others.
