Does the 2011 WC format work against India?

India are one of the better teams this time around and what more?We get to play all our matches in India. But I have a gut wrenching feeling that our chances have diminished thanks to the QF,SF,F format.Had it been a super6/super 8 format I am sure we would have breezed through to the SF.But now the element of chance is too great. You just need to win 3 games in a row and you win the Cup.A team like Pakistan/WI would not have made it to the SF stage if the super6/8 formats were followed. But now even they have a chance to win the world cup and eliminate better teams.Pakistan of late have performed better in the KO stages(eg T20 WC's and CT) and should fancy their chances.WI also have a history of knocking out India in KO tourneys(remember 98 CT,06 CT,T20 WC) and on their day can destroy any opponent. So this time there is no clear favourite and this harms Indian prospects since we are one of the favourites.

This format works better for "big game" team Australia, mercurial team pakistan, always underrated Sri Lanka and nothing to lose teams like England. The format is not suited for teams that get pretty nervous on big games like India and SA.

it will be these two teams that will do well this time.

in T20s maybe , you need a better team to win 3 KO matches in ODI's

what u all think huh !!!!! This wordcup is dependent on luck, yes but this is not T20 u need to play well in 50 over format as we all know T20 is just 1 player game and i think even Bangladesh can make it to semis if they play well. And those who says India and SA dont perdorm well on big occasions. Maybe India nut SA have been hit by luck on big occasions than anything else so its better to wait n watch rather than debating such stupid things

^ what luck like your premium fast bowler had a brainfart when taking a single in '99 or your captain couldn't even calculate DL score in '03 where did the luck factor come there. you are the best chokers, only title in which pakistan cannot beat you

This format works best for India, in the sense, its very hard to get themselves eliminated before KO stage. Sufficient rest period between matches, Most of our matches falls once a week during weekends. what they do with it, is a big question mark though Having the best batting power with home conditions and loads of spinning options.

What the ****?? the only time you guys were unlucky was in 1992 WC where coz of D/L method you people lost out. Apart from that 1996, well it was Lara's magic, 1999 bloody hell Herschelle Gibbs had to juggle the ball and hence dropped a sitter. And then you guys simply CHOKED in the Semis. 2003, that was the joke of the decade, such great aptitude from the prospective #1 side. 2007, you were ass raped by Australia. Its nothing but choking at the big stage. India has done badly and we don't attribute it to anything else but to the fact that we have played dreadfully at that level. But SA is one team who would always declare them as favs before any event and then choke out of it. Period.

Yep, the biggest stage in cricket and the poster says it is about luck. It is about the beauty of knockout matches, do or die.
