No. Results arent the only criteria. But are a good criteria esp when the teams for both captains are more or less the same. Plus you look at the magnitude of difference in result. Surely, tht does matter. Dhoni is tactically better(debate). Certainly a stronger personality, who infuses calmness, confidence n good work ethic in the team More agile on the field. And he leads by example n performances more than his contender.

Here's my take on the criteria: 1) Strategy / Tactics - Timely strategic decisions can decisively alter the direction of the game, be it a batting order change, a well thought over bowling change, or placement of a fielder for executing a specific plan. My choice: Ganguly 2) Team Strength - A captain can only be as good as the team he is given. Where dhoni helped was with his batting.. for a long time indian cricket lacked a true all rounder and dhonis batting added the batting depth needed to be a competitive side. Dhonis captaincy is not exceptional but he is a great man manager, ganguly was a great caption but a poor man manager.. always got into tussels with everyone.

Ganguly made the team from scratch instilled the agression and winning habbit in our Team when we toured abroad. He was the one who made some bold decisions like Making a middle Order Rookie batsman an Opener, which Dhoni lack as yet. He could have easily asked Pujara to bat at number 3. We'll find out how good is Dhoni once when Goddy, Laxman and Dravid retires, he will have to find players for their replacement and the amount of sucess he gets with them should tell us if he is really better. As of now, i'll not compare a skipper like Dhoni who has never lead the team in AUS,Eng, Pak and a WC to a one who has done all of them and with substantial sucess.

In fact, it was when Dhoni took over the mantle that the entire team started "giving it back" to the Assies and anyone else. Also, Dhoni uses the media very wisely. His recent comment about preferring a green pitch was sweeeeet.
