For me, he is probably the best batsman of the 2000s PS To put things in to perspective, THIS shows how those batting in the 1 to 3 positions fared! When batting in top 3, Viru's avg goes up to 54 w/ a SR of slightly more than 81!! The avg avg and avg SR of the others are 49 and 55 respectively!
youngindia Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 obviously there will be some problems with the moving ball the way his foot moves. that was long foreseen. however he has toured england just once. the nz tour was rubbish in 2002. hence i wuld give more time now that he is a senior and much more skilled. In Sa, the conditions- the steep bounce of durban and the tennis ball bounce of newlands bothered him.but he didn't look bothered at centurion.

I have doubts over his greatness in the sense that he is rated as the 2nd best bowler ever in ESPN Legends of Cricket. He is rated at #6, with Shane Warne being the only bowler ahead of him (Warne being at #4 in that list). CMJ however has Warne, McGrath, Murali, Imran and Marshall ahead of Lillee in his list. As regards Dravid and Jayasuriya, I never claimed it to be accurate. All I said is that it gives us an idea that outside of India he isn't rated anywhere being one of the greatest Test batsman ever. A noted cricket analyst like CMJ would have at least had him in his top 100 if that were the case.

Can you show me Ian Chappell's World XI where he included Sehwag, and that he considers him as good as Richards? Chappell made a list of his 11 players who he thought was most thrilling to watch, and included Sehwag there. About 10 such different lists were made by different people before finally ESPNCricinfo's All Time World XI was released.

Unlike that guy, I have never called Sehwag names or expressed my personal dislike towards him. Not once I have insulted him personally.

What you are implying is that Asian conditions are tailor made for batting. I have made a post in this thread previously implying that my initial assumption was probably incorrect, and it should have rather been STB that I should have used.

Tell me are conditions vastly different in Pakistan from India or Bangladesh or Sri Lanka? Why should we even talk of in Asia or out of Asia thing? Why shouldn't we? Sehwag is from Asia, and his performance outside Asia is well worth the watch. Why exactly Mahela Jayawardena is often ridiculed for being an FTB? Because he averages 36 odd outside Asia. You can't tell him a choker? Maybe his role in the team is to set the match up rather than go for the rescue act? True, he isn't a choker overall. I called him a choker in the 4th innings of Test matches, which is true.
