Bublu Bhuyan Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Let's examine one Virender Sehwag on whether the thread title suits him appropriately or not. Now before jumping on my head, please take a note that this isn't my or anyone else's opinion. This is something that facts before us prove to be true. Without waiting further, let's have a look at them. The true measure of a subcontinental batsman's ability to adapt to alien conditions is analyzing his performance outside Asia. Here's the list of batsmen from the subcontinent arranged according to their batting averages outside Asia (excluding performances in Zimbabwe). The minimum criteria is to play at least 15 Test matches outside Asia. I haven't included the whole list, but the most significant part of it. That's right, an average of 38.89, that too in the worst ever era of bowling standards (post 2000). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, let's have a look at how he performs in 4th innings chases of test matches. Here's the list of batsmen from the subcontinent arranged according to their batting averages in 4th innings of Test matches. The minimum criteria is to play at least 20 Test matches in their entire career. That's right, an average of 28.86 Case closed, point proven.
Zap_Brannigan Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 A cracked up 5th day Sri lankan wicket is not a Flat track. He scored a 200 when the rest of the team managed a 100. Similarly, he was the only batsman to succeed in NZ back in 2002/03. He is no FTB but he just doesn't give enough respect to the conditions.
Deleted_User_1 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Yup he is subcontinent bully. My idol SMG has the best avg. No wonder he is the greatest opener ever.
Bublu Bhuyan Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Yup he is subcontinent bully. My idol SMG has the best avg. No wonder he is the greatest opener ever. Dravid has the best average followed by Tendulkar, and then Sunny. But Sunny's average has much more weightage in my eyes considering the type of attacks he faced.

saneindian Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 On those same flat tracks, how many batsman have scored 5000+ runs at a strike rate of 90+ against the new ball on fresh pithces? What a way to run down a once in a lifetime player.
Zap_Brannigan Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 its wasnt on fifth day..it was in the first innings...i only remember his 85 in chennai and 151 in adelaide on 5th day... You are right. It wasnt. But my point still stands. He scored a 200 when the team totals were 329(including his 200), 292, 229 and 137 and the spinners in the 2 teams took 30 of the 40 wickets. It wasnt a batting track or a flat track by any means but Viru delivered. Anyway Viru not scoring in the 3rd/4th innings is a big mystery and often it is the 3rd day and 4th day (Most likely 3rd innings) that is the best for batting in places outside India. He averages 32 and 29 in the 3rd innings and 4th innings in his career. What is it about the 3rd/4th innings that is so different than the 1st 2 innings?

It was not the case for Sehwag, He chased wide ones, driven without any control on the shot, tried to hit harris for six. Thats how he got out most of the times, Baring Durban First Innings dismissal and 3rd test 2nd Innings dismissal. And by the look of this dismissals they were to do with his temperament, recently it looks as if he is having problems with his concentration. If he can sort that out, No ground is bigger for him and No condition is alienatic for him.

HowardRoark Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 All I got to say is Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi! :yay: Oh, and how can you close your own case? :giggle: The OP seems to have been exposed to too much of 'lahori' logic.
Bublu Bhuyan Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 with trolls like u who needs paki fans' date=' sehwag is an all time great wheter u like it or not :finger:[/quote'] :haha: When people with weak stomach are unable to digest solid hard cold facts about their heroes, they end up calling others a 'troll', since they don't have any substance to counter those claims. And you are no different, kid. As for twisting stats, you are the one who tried doing that to make your hero look good. I merely brought in his average outside the subcontinent, something which is usually done to introspect the ability of Asian players. You made a fool out of yourself when you claimed those stats to be twisted. Unfortunately you have no way to twist ways and make your hero look like not the choker that he is in 4th innings of Test matches, hence you decided not to speak on that topic and leave it like it is. The difference between me and you fan boys is that I'm willing to admit facts and see things from a neutral perspective, while you fan boys are unwilling to do that and end up trying to cover up facts or turn a blind eye when they seem to expose your hero in a negative light.
Asoka Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 What's wrong with the OP????He is simply stating facts. If a person gets slammed for calling a spade a spade:idunno::idunno:
jusarrived Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 No. That is a criteria set by self loathing Desi cricket fans who are brainwashed into thinking that people with lesser or little skills can succeed playing Test cricket in Indian conditions. Now no matter what stats I put you will simply not accept them but you will realize what I say ONLY when you go to say a place like Chennai in end of March and survive just standing outside on the road for just an hour or so. Sehwag did that for 9 continuous sessions ( or 3 days ) of which he was fielding for most part of the first 2 days and bowled 11 overs and then came back and batted for more than a day and spanked the happiness of the SA bowlers. +1

zen Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I didn't see anyone mention the 190 odd that he hit in Melbourne, where many of our batsmen failed, in bowler friendly conditions There is no point in posting stats, if people don't know what they mean and how players who play like him fare. I don't know how you can give the same weightage to the avg of someone having a SR of 80 vs those who have a SR of around 55. Also being an opener, he is taking on fresh fast bowlers at times in the first hour of the day. Viru is an amazing player, who can work in any conditions. You only have to see some of the innings that he played. If you look at his avg, along w/ SR, he has the case of being the best test batsman of 2000s!
