Guest Shivani
"Did other teams pay Delhi to bid Pathan for $1.9 millions. This guy can't provide big finish with the bat, can't bowl out his quota of 4 overs properly and drops catches when it matters the most. Someone should remind him that with Torres scoring last weekend the whole world has only one man to criticise and thats him," :hysterical:

rajmarie
:dd: need to fix their team selection. Why was 2 wk included in the team today is still a mystery for me. An extra batsman or bowler could have been handy for them today. For me....DD have become the last IPL KKR...always messing with the team..& hoping it clicks. Ram
I would like to meet the person who is responsible for drawing up Delhi’s strategies for this year so that I can see, first hand, the monumental c0ck who screwed up the chances of such a high profile franchize. Isnt it glaring that every team bar Delhi have actually gotten better since last year? KKR have a look of solidity about them that was missing for the last 3 years. Punjab, despite their status troubles prior to the auction, still look stronger compared to last year. Same for Rajasthan as well. Delhi had such a formidable batting line-up last year, but they simply frittered it away by not retaining players like AB De Villiers, which completely boggles your mind. If that wasn’t bad enough, they invested almost all of their monies in buying upcoming Indian quicks, starting from Umesh to Dinda to Varun Aaron. I don’t get it, why would you buy 3 rookie pacers, when you already have Irfan, Agarkar and Morne Morkel in your team? If that wasn’t worse, after packing their rafters with a truck-load of seamers, they then go on to prepare some of the most sluggish tracks you could ever hope to see, for a t20 tournament. That cost them dearly in their first set of matches. Thankfully, somebody seems to have suddenly grown a brain somewhere and said ‘Oh, how about prepping quick/bouncy tracks for our home games..?’ The strategy may have worked in the previous game where they won, but its recipe for certain disaster. Have they not been watching the previous editions of IPL or the other teams play at all? The teams that are consistently the most successful almost always have a formidable spin attack. Heck, the Champion CSK is playing, three, not one or two, but THREE specialist spinners. Pacers, especially the good ones like Steyn maybe very good at getting initial breakthroughs, but you need spinners to tighten the screws in the middle overs. Your chances of defending anything under 150-160 is almost non-existent, if you don’t have a decent spin attack, unless your fast men reduce the opposition to 10 for 5 or something. Delhi’s IPL 2011 has been a tale of botched vision and execution. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they end up the worst team of the year, which is sad because they have always been a force to reckon with, in the previous years. Cricketics
Daym Ram. .That was well written. But I still believe.that or a twenty20, this is still not a bad side. I beleive our bowling sucked today. We should have been able to defend it. Not enough pressure put by bowlers at the end when Tiwary and Vettori were batting. anotherhawkeye
Spot on Ram. I love Viru and for his sake, I hope DD wins few more games. Hate to see that man lose. At the same time, I want DD to be the basement dweller to teach every other franchise a lesson. If you don't pay attention at auction, you deserve to suck!! Whoever is responsible for auctioning players should be fired. I truly hate GMR and the way they have put a sub-standard team on the field. How can they let go of ABD and Gauti? Geez.. vvvslaxman
I think they should not have been involved in a bidding war for Irfan pathan. When the bidding happened Irfan was out of action. So they shouldn't have taken the risk. They lost ABDV, Gauti, Dilshan, Karthik, Manhas, Bhatia. Only good buy is Venu Rao. There are so many specialist spinners they could have bought. Even Greame swann would have been more than handy.
