He is india's best limited overs batsman as he does not come up the order.You will never find dhoni going up the order when conditions are tough ,But when we are 150-1 he might promote himself as he knows he can play a big innings and team can revolve around him.He knows his limitations as a batsman.

Dhoni needs to play at no.3 if he wants to do what he does in T2O ,any number lower than 3he is useless.As Pagalpanti said ,his modus operandi is masterful and pefrfect for ODIs but not for T20's. So, if he doesnt want to bat at no.3 then he should retire from this format.

there is a stat in baseball called WAR-a formula to calculate the number of wins a player contributes to his team over a "replacement-level player" and Dhoni's has an astronomical WAR difference in ODIs and T20s,basically he is losing us matches in T20s and can be replaced by any big striker of the ball and that guy will have a better WAR than Dhoni in T20.
