Vijay has already been in SA for so long and it was natural for him to be asked to stay back when Sehwag was advised to pull out of the ODIs.

Badri has made TONS of runs in domestic cricket, Raina has done so much in ODI cricket and got in the test side on the back of his international experience. Ashwin too has done well in Ranji and the IPL. Look Vijay averages nearly 40 in List A cricket; he has shown he can cope with international cricket, at least test cricket at home, had a good IPL last year too. He deserved a chance at ODI cricket, and ok he hasnt set the house on fire and so can be replaced. That probably can not be done now bearing in mind the WC is 6 weeks away. But he deserved this chance
