There used to be Sharma's as fast bowlers from north zone in late 80's as well. Chetan Sharma and Sanjeev Sharma. Both of them played for India as well. I believe that some point of time they would definitely have opened attack for North Zone. But not sure.

FINAL, DAY THREE Badrinath completes ton, South takes lead LEADING FROM THE FRONT: South Zone skipper S. Badrinath's knock helped his team take the first innings lead. South Zone captain S. Badrinath must have been a happy man at the end of the day as his team was in a comfortable position at stumps on the third day of the Duleep Trophy final against North Zone at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Friday. Badrinath scored his 27th first-class century (fourth in the tournament) as South gained a 140-run lead. Joginder Sharma and Ishant Sharma bowled much better than they did on the previous day and at one stage looked like bringing North back into the game. At close, North Zone was 50 for one, with Nitin Saini and Mandeep Singh playing out safely after Shikar Dhawan's exit. North's openers started their second innings slowly, scoring just 28 runs in the first 16 overs. Ojha was borught into the attack early, and the move paid off as he struck in his fourth over, getting Dhawan to inside-edge one onto his pads and Sumanth pouched the catch at forward short leg. North ended the day on 50 for 1 and will need a huge effort from their batsmen to give themselves a chance of winning the game outright. The team needs to score quickly on the fourth day to set a reasonable target for South, and then hope to dismiss it quickly. The cracks on the pitch are widening and there is a possibility of the final day seeing an interesting contest. Useful partnership Badrinath reached his three-figure mark in the morning session with a fine on-drive off North captain Amit Mishra. The day started briskly enough: S Badrinath, who was 97 not out overnight, reached his 27th first-class century off the sixth ball he faced, getting to the landmark with a drive past mid-on off legspinner Amit Mishra. Badrinath went over long-on for six in Mishra's next over and Bodapati Sumanth kept the runs flowing from the other end. When Sumanth was bowled by Sumit Narwal in the 87th over, South had already added 61 runs to their overnight score of 298 and taken the all important first-innings lead. But an odd ball that kept low undid Sumanth (48, 7x4); he almost lost balance as the delivery from Sumit Narwal crashed through and denied him a deserving half-century. The partnership was worth 119 runs. North must have been pleased as three dismissals followed. That wicket, though, seemed to act as a speed breaker to the innings, and only two more boundaries were hit in the rest of the session. Badrinath was unfortunate to be run out for 136 in the 96th over. Ishant Sharma dropped a return catch from Amit Verma, but he inadvertently deflected the ball onto the stumps at the non-striker's end and Badrinath was caught backing up. At that stage, South were only 49 runs ahead with three wickets in hand. Tough tail and sloppy North But, Verma, Abhimanyu Mithun, Pragyan Ojha and S. Aravind extended the innings as the lead swelled. Pragyan Ojha came in at No.10 and looked scratchy from the word go. But North gave him a let off the third ball he faced, Paras Dogra dropping a sitter at backward point off Joginder. Ojha managed to last another 57 balls, and scored a frustrating 21. By the time he was out, stumped by Uday Kaul off Yashpal Singh, South had added 91 runs for the last three wickets. North Zone got themselves back into the match on the third morning with three wickets in the first session, but just when it looked like they might restrict South Zone to a lead of less than 100, they got sloppy in the field and South's tailenders got their fair share of luck to push the lead to 140. Scoring was much slower than the frenetic pace of the second day, when 369 runs were made from 86.1 overs. Only 229 runs came from 85.2 overs on Friday, with scratchy batting from South's lower order being the feature of the day. The action-packed second day had seen an altercation between South batsman Robin Uthappa and North bowler Ishant Sharma, and it was announced on Friday that both players would be fined 100 per cent of their match fee.

Yes. Ojha was effective but the most threatening bowler was Mithun though all three bowlers--Ojha, Mithun and Arvind bagged 3 wickets each as North were bundled out for just 317 giving South a modest target of 178 in the 4th innings to win the match. Manhas played a splendid knock of 79 in 83 deliveries but there were no other knocks that could stand out. Saini scored a slow 65 at the top while Yashpal ran out of partner when he was on 42 not out. Uthappa has again hammered every bowler and has got out after scoring 71 in 45 balls. He has fixed his eyes truely on limited version of the game. Ishant's bowling figure is miserable!

Wow!! 178 in 23 overs is brutal. Uthappa absolutely massacred the NZ bowling. With Sehwag likely to be out for 4-5 months due to a likely shoulder surgery post the WC, if Robin can sustain his form and do well in IPL, he could very well be back in the Indian ODI team from the WI tour onwards.

Uthappa..he is definitely a game changer. India could have picked him ahead of Piyush. He could have also played the role of backup wicket keeper.

Forgot that aspect. A good IPL and Uthappa would surely be back in the ODI team. Needs to continue the good form though with the Ranji one dayers starting from 22nd Feb. Who knows, being in good form, he may get lucky during the WC itself if any of our specialist batmen get injured.
