Ishant has not played since the end of the test series and can certainly do with some bowling in match conditions. Rohit could hardly put bat to ball and Parthiv played just 2 ODIs. NZ looks really weak and unless the Baroda pitch is a patta where they bat first and put up a big total, they have no chance. I don't think Ishant can correct his technical errors by playing matches...he is not short of match practice and he will not get good by playing...he needs to spend some time in NCA if coaches their can work on him or with his coach who can understand his problems and work on them...like run up, wrist position, falling towards left side, head position, and front leg collapsing these errors have crept in him....I think until he works on these errors he can not bowl well how many matches he plays...

Upto Mandeep and Kaul to build a solid partnership right now although the likes of Amit Mishra, Jogi, and Narwal can bat a bit. Wish I could watch the NZ/WZ match...wanted to see the likes of Vikas, Sarul, Mandeep,Yashpal, Suyal, and Fallah in action. In the other game, Mukund falls after reaching his century - falling to RP who got the ball to swing away and Mukund fishing. Pandey totally obliterated the spinner, Wakhare, en route to his century. Wow,there are 7 Karnataka players in the starting XI. and at last Yadav...that is why I get so excited about him.....I saw only one ball of him which resulted in run out of Badrinath...it was his first bowl of the spell....he just ambled in, even slower than RP and bowled a short of length first ball at 137 kph without much effort....and then I was hoping him to crank it up more..power cut and then i had to go to work and I was late today just to watch a few overs coz usually I leave at 9 o'clock daily Ok, lemme try to fill you in...In that initial spell, Yadav was bowling in the high 130 and crossed the 140 mark quite a few times with the fastest being 147 surprisingly. Meanwhile, RP and Pankaj were in the mid to high 120's. Yadav has the pace but it would also help if he adds a bit of variety and accuracy in his bowling. Yadav didn't look very wayward by the stats 22 ruins in 8 overs with 3 maidens in first spell...and yes Yadav should certainly work on these things, like working out the batsman like Zak does, but these things come with experience and he is the least experienced bowler in the three...I think these bowlers cannot learn those things if they will continue play FC...our FC structure is not that good for fast bowlers to learn these things...not many good coaches also in India...That is why BCCI should send these bowlers to English and Australian academies or to play for counties where they will learn these things every day and develop as a better bowler.. 147 surprisingly No surprise for me...i have seen him bowl at that pace in challenger trophy final with the white ball...I am expecting him to touch 150 KPH mark soon maybe in the IPL with much more intensity...

In the other match NZ going strong with 315/5 with Uday kaul playing a good knock.

And what about that Central spinner..can't even recall his name..?He was simply aweful? How come he made to the zonal squad? Showed the quality we are lacking even in our most elite FC tournament!

Kathik is there as a batsman due to his experience.

Mandeep Singh's 104-run stand with Mithun Manhas for the third wicket was critical to the team's plans for the Duleep Trophy semifinals against West Zone. Amit Mishra justified his decision to bat first with a watchful unbeaten 32, boosting the visitor's first innings score to 315 for five in 91 overs at stumps in tandem with a defiant Uday Kaul (55 batting). Walking out to face the fourth ball of North's first innings, Mandeep ventured into bold hitting against the new-ball attack of left-arm pacemen Jaydev Unadkat and Samad Fallah. He continued in the same vein against spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Bhargav Bhatt en route to an aggressive 114 (205b, 14 fours, one six). Both Mandeep and Unadkat are India U-19 World Cuppers trying to make a mark in the senior ranks. The contest between the two youngsters was engrossing, with the bowler opting for short-pitched stuff on being given the charge by the North batsman. A life Mandeep got a life on 25 off Unadkat, a hot chance in the slips. But from then on he did not look back. He was confident in reading the line against pacemen, taking risks despite the help from the track for the bowlers, Unadkat and Murtuza Vahora in particular. Unadkat gained bounce and lift, Vahora's pace off the wicket made him a tricky weapon. Mandeep and the experienced Manhas put North on top with effortless strokeplay. South Zone v Central Zone South rides on Pandey's double century DOUBLE DELIGHT: South Zone's Manish Pandey is an ecstatic man after completing his double century on Wednesday. The flamboyant Manish Pandey displayed his big-hitting ability (203 not out, 191 balls, 19x4, 7x6) on the first day of the four-day Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone. The 21-year-old in the company of opener Abhinav Mukund (105, 146 balls, 21x4) ensured that South finished the day at a strong 416 for eight at close of play here on Wednesday. South captain Subramaniam Badrinath won the toss on what turned out to be yet another placid batting track. The fielders and the bowlers struggled as the day progressed with the fluent and technically correct Mukund playing some exquisite strokes. An on-drive and cover-drive off Pankaj Singh in one over bore the stamp of class from the Tamil Nadu player. Pandey, after a hesitant start, dictated terms. He was especially severe against the tall off-spinner Akshay Wakhare who was carted all over in his first eight overs for 72 runs. Pandey hit him for five sixes and four fours. Just when Central's fielding was flagging, Mukund provided them a big relief gifting away his wicket, chasing a wide ball from left-arm fast bowler R.P. Singh. By then Mukund and Pandey had put on 174 runs off 175 balls in 123 minutes to push Central on the back-foot. The stand helped South score 300 for four in 57.2 overs. At the other end Pandey continued to toy with the bowling. There was a chance for Central to see his back when he was on 127 but Pankaj Singh made a mess in grabbing a skier. Uthappa unlucky Earlier, when South began its innings, Robin Uthappa was clearly unlucky to be given out caught behind off his attempted leg-glance off R.P. Singh. Towards the end, Central Zone picked wickets at regular intervals to restrict in the final session after South was looking far better at 305 for four at the tea break. “We all know what is making news in the media in last few days but its better not to think too much. I have learned that such things will happen, but as a player we need to concentrate more on the game. Scoring runs is my first priority, other things come last,” Pandey said. “Once you reach ground, the first thing is to perform. I should not forget that unless I score runs there won’t be any chance of being in contention for any contract, “ he says. Pandey’s blistering innings, that included 7 sixes and 19 fours, came against a star studded Central Zone which had likes of RP Singh, Pankaj Singh and Umesh Yadav, who had recently pulled a sensational win in their last game against East Zone after dismissing them for 96 runs in their second innings. Having been the highest Ranji Trophy run getter in last season, the Karnataka middle-order batsman once again had the burden of delivering the same show. He may have failed his own lofty standards, managing to score only two hundreds this season with his run tally of 629 runs in 14 innings of Ranji Trophy but he reveals that he knew the runs were due to come. “I could manage only two centuries compared to four last year. So I was desperate to score big because that always counts. The joy of scoring 200 is something different especially because you know that it doesn’t come very often,” Pandey explains. Though Pandey stole the limelight, he got vital support from opener Abhinav Mukund (105). The duo added 174 runs for third wicket. However with 8 wickets down at close of play, Pandey has only the tail for company. Batting with Pragyan Ojha, the attacking batsman will have to take most of the strike when he comes to bat again on Thursday. Keeping that in mind, Pandey is not setting any target. “Let’s see how things go, batting with tailenders is never easy,” he cautions.

His average is around 133-135... he still has long way to go. 135 average is decent for India. I hope he keeps up when he gets a chance. Unlike Unadkat who could barely reach 130 on his fast ones. Heard he was bowling a lot in 140s. Unless the speed gun is not working properly, he looks like a good prospect.

Haven't watched the match, but going by scoreboard both Pankaj and RP have over-bowled him in both matches. Whats the use of speed, if he can't buy wickets?
saneindian Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 So Bipul Sharma went to India A tours 6 months ago but now he cannot get into the zonal squad. Same with Jaskaran Singh and Ganpathy. Are our selectors even thinking of development of players or is it just pick one guy for one tour and move on to the next one. Great to hear about Yadav's speeds. At least we have someone hitting 140s in domestic cricket, something not too many bowlers have achieved. Even if he lacks skills, he has the pace and can be useful in certain conditions. Someone needs to guide him properly and egg him on not to sacrifice his pace for for more control and a longer career.
