SA problem is not the colour of the people they've picked but rather the way they've chosen to prepare for this tournament. Picking a side for South African conditions and playing on taylored South African pitches before a sub-continental WC was nutts. You could hear it in Keplar Wessels commentary if you've been following the ODI series.

The fact that they have a formalized constraint to their selection procedure is entirely up to them. If they feel this is the best way in which to develop the game in their country I wish them all the luck. I would note that a many have such a formulaic selection process but just chose not to make it formal. For example its well know that WCIB has strict limits on the number of players it will pick from one Island or that in Pakistan no player has ever been picked from its geographically largest state Baluchistan. My point is not really with this but rather the tacit assumption that were such a policy not to be in place that South Africa would miraculously be transformed in a world beating side. However their problem in the current series is that their front line players particularly their batsmen have not performed especially against spin. Although a huge amount of bile has been poured on Parnell, it is infact Smith, Amla, De-Villiers, and Ingram that haven't performed. So in case you missed it, I'll say it again. Which Bradmans and Warnes have they left out because of this policy? Is it rather that they can't play spin, don't have spinners and prepared by playing on entirely the wrong surfaces. Mariyam 1

Just a free advice. An ad hominem approach, which seems to be your preference will tend to result in more blood on your own shirt than your opponents. Just ask Graeme Smith.

What i mean is They should look to chaange WC squad and bring A.Morkel in for parnell & yes in 5th ODI they should play either Parnell back or A.Morkel as he is drafted back to squad as domestic game Finishes today

The Outsider Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 u can see why south afrika, in spite of all the quality they have, will never win a world cup. any team that has to satisfy quotas at the expense of picking the best possible players will never be a winning team. simple as that. peterson being picked is a joke, as is wayne parnell. u can tell that these two selections are acounting for the 'cape coloured' quotas. leaving out a quality all rounder like albie morkel is a huge mistake. he lengthens their batting lineup, is a big hitter (could have used him in today's match) and is a viable first change bowling option. the guy also has exprience of playing in india. picking him was a no brainer, but hey, he is white so forget about it... people talk about south afrika choking, but their team selection is the real issue. garbage bowlers like parnell relieve pressure the moment they come on (isnt his ER obscenely high?), peterson is a good fielder but thats about it, guy cant bat or bowl for his life. if they wanted to pick cape coloured they could have gone for gibbs. he might be past it but still a better selection. i am gona go look up the odds on bangladesh beating south afrika. Cape colored Peterson has an average of 43, a strike rate of 135. And he has taken 14 wickets at an average of 13 and an economy rate of 4. :hysterical::hysterical: ICF's IPL hyped Albie Morkel is a joke.
