South afrika squad for WC - same old racial quotas

Graeme Smith (captain) Hashim Amla AB de Villiers Jacques Kallis JP Duminy Colin Ingram Robin Peterson Johan Botha Dale Steyn Lonwabo Tsotsobe Imran Tahir Morne Morkel Morne van Wyk Wayne Parnell Faf du Plessis u can see why south afrika, in spite of all the quality they have, will never win a world cup. any team that has to satisfy quotas at the expense of picking the best possible players will never be a winning team. simple as that. peterson being picked is a joke, as is wayne parnell. u can tell that these two selections are acounting for the 'cape coloured' quotas. leaving out a quality all rounder like albie morkel is a huge mistake. he lengthens their batting lineup, is a big hitter (could have used him in today's match) and is a viable first change bowling option. the guy also has exprience of playing in india. picking him was a no brainer, but hey, he is white so forget about it... same goes for a quality death bowler rusty theron, who is being left out to include one of those two crappy cape coloureds. absolute joke. steyn, morkel are dynamite in south afrika but in india, where conditions wont be suiting them, somebody like theron could be handy. too bad he is white eh people talk about south afrika choking, but their team selection is the real issue. garbage bowlers like parnell relieve pressure the moment they come on (isnt his ER obscenely high?), peterson is a good fielder but thats about it, guy cant bat or bowl for his life. if they wanted to pick cape coloured they could have gone for gibbs. he might be past it but still a better selection. watch south afrika play a similar team to what they play against india + kallis. top heavy batting lineup (in which most bats cant play good spin), with a looooong tail always prone to collapsing. i am gona go look up the odds on bangladesh beating south afrika.

I don't know where is Charles Langveldt. That guy is a pretty good bowler. Not a bad squad though. i think south africa will go all the way to semis and then would get beaten there.

Albie morkel?.that guy has not been good in odis at all apart from some cameos, his bowling is even worse.Peterson is not that great but atleast he provides a spin option for SA.

I agree about Parnell, Petersen is decent I think, although he is having a rough series with us. Regarding quotas, my take is, you do need it sometimes to help level the playing field after years of suppression. Then again, may be not as the black athletes in the US have shown by picking themselves based on performance and without any quotas.

peterson isnt even a cricketer. this isnt alviro the opener, this is robin peterson, who is ****. south afrika's team selection reminds me of 2007 when they had bosman and telemachus, LOL south afrika will play smith amla kallis AB JP duminy Faf botha parnell steyn morne tosser thats one long tail. too much pressure on the top order. imagine if albie was playing instead of parnell, and botha batting one place lower at 8. that would be much better india has tied them up in the death overs, today they lost their last 6 for just 20. and this is at home. how are they gonna handle india in india if there is one big upset u are looking for this world cup, look no further than bangladesh knocking out this overrated, flawed south afrikan side

Mate the reason that you will do jack all in the WC is your preparation is aweful. Let me list your problems non of which are to do with race: 1. Picking a side to play in SA conditions in your last series leading up to a sub continental WC 2. The wk situation is still not sorted out. ABD does a passable to mediocre job, on top of which my having him as wk you lose your best fielder. 3. You don't have enough spinning options leading to a sub continental WC 4. A very obvious lack of team unity 5. Having no apparent plan B if Smith get out early or doesn't get going. 6. Assuming that putting up big totals against mediocre sides like WI and PAK meant that you had a top flight batting line up. India have shown that vs a decent deciplined attack your batting isn't up to it. 7. No genuine all rounder if Kallis isn't around. 8. No one know if Imran Tahir is any good as you have refused to play him. I have my doubts that a guy who was under the international radar in Eng and Pak is the next Shane Warne. 9. You have no finisher - Yusuf Pathan for India, Morgan for Eng, Pollard for WI 10. In ability to score boundaries None of these are to do with race. There are no white Tendulkars, Imran Khans or Malcolm Marshalls you've failed to pick.

I am SA fan since 99, this is the worst side they have selected since i know this team. 1. A.Morkel should have been definately picked in place of R.Peterson[ he is JADEJA of SA, does nothing with BAT/BALL just fields well] 2.Parnell should have been dropped for Langaveldt. 3. If they did not want to pick A.Morkel then they should have opted for a hard hitting all rounder [i don't know if FAF is hard hitter????] but he looked good so ok with that. 4.where the sell is Roeluf Van Der Merwe ???????? 5. When Kallis arrives where does they play Ingram as he isn't hard hitter & to play him at 6 is big risk. 6. Should SA play Vanwyk as a keeper and leave ABD for POINT????? [i think that should happen & INGRAM will make way for that] I as a captain would play lineup like this with current squad: Smith Amla Kallis ABD Duminy Van wyk[WK] Faf Botha Steyn Morkel Tsotsobe 4 Bowlers 1 allrounder 2 half All rounders[Duminy,Faf] This adds little balance to the side with 3 spinning options 4 fast bowling options and har hitting option as well with Duminy & Faf lower down.

Agree with all of you this the worst South African side of all times, Australian squad looks far more stronger than the saffers, by looking at the squad I can clearly tell South Africa won't make the semis this time around. My Saf Squad 1. G. Smith 2. Morne van Wyk (wk) 3. H. Amla 4. J. Kallis 5. A.B. Devilliers 6. J.P. Duminy 7. Faf du Plessis 8. J. Botha 9. M. Morkel 10. D. Steyn 11. L. Tsotsobe (he is a most in all matches, he will shine in the subcontinent pitches) AB shouldn't keep, puts added pressure on him.

What is the meaning of 'cape colored'? To me, Wayne Parnell looks as white as they come. However I agree with the OP. Race based quotas will only harm the team (and the society) in the long run. Cricketers should be picked on the basis of merit alone.

I'd play Ingram over Morne van Wyk and ABDV to keep with Amla opening the batting. Not a bad team anyway though little weak on hard hitters down the order.

"little weak" :D they don't have any hard hitters at all. Albie Morkel should have been picked, he was their only hard hitter and he doesn't gets picked.

I think they are a slogger short. I guess Dale is the only 'slogger' per se, down the order. Rusty Theron would have been an awesome pick given his effectiveness in India. Albie wasn't picked for the same reason that Irfan doesn't get picked... he is not effective at his craft. He can take this like a learning curve and bounce back.

Albie is a F up with the ball and he is not good enough to play purely as a batsman. Don't have a problem with dropping him, but Rusty should of been in the side instead of Robin Peterson. Rob is a terrific fielder and that's about it. Morne Van Wyk has to play else the batting looks very pale after #6. My XI Smith Amla Kallis ABDV JP Faf MVW Botha Steyn Morkel Tso

"South Africa have got a bit of problem with their selection issues. They must select seven coloured players out of 15. Their tail will be too long. They have a problem with the batting down the order."
Former South Africa batsman Peter Kirsten doesn't rate South Africa's chances in the World Cup

Isn't that guy our coach??? It would be his duty to downplay their chances. Wouldn't it?
