I think India will win WC this time. My logic is whenever anybody from India scores a 175 in WC, we win that world cup. So now Sehwag has done that for us, we should win.

Anyways, my 11 for the first game. I think we wouldn't need 7 batsmen on a flatish pitch against BD bowlers, mainly spinners. And we play spin well - Tendulkar - Sehwag - GG - Kohli - Dhoni - YP - Ashwin / Chawla (or Yuvi to see if he can strike some form. He has been bowling well lately) - Bhajji - Zak - Munna - Sree / Nehra India :isalute:

Can't wait for the game to start at B'lore .... also waiting for the match-tracker w/ cool analysis for the game to open Would prefer the same 11 as the above for B'lore :isalute:

Let's not get carried away and avoid knee-jerk reaction Yup, our bowling was pathetic and if we continue to bowl this way there's no way we will go deep into the tournament. But at the same time let's not lose perspective and slate the team for going with 5 bowlers. I think we still need to go with 7+4 formula for the following reasons... 1. Most of the success we have achieved over the last few years (under Ganguly & Dhoni) has come using the 7 batsman strategy. Before the 7 batsmen team composition we were an ordinary side with tail starting at 5. Even now our top-order batsmen are able to play freely as they know at the back of their mind that in case they fall going for their shots there are enough batsmen in the hut for us to make a good score. 2. What if we lose 2 early wickets or have to chase a high total in a knock-out? I can remember so many times when no. 7 batsman bailed us out - i) Natwest trophy final where we chased 325 with Yuvraj & Kaif, ii) World cup 2003 game against Pak where Yuvraj and Dravid took us home after Tendulkar set up the game, iii) Recent match-winning cameos by Pathan to win us a few games. 3. With Batting power-play a huge unknown in the world cup, we need to have the fire-power lower down the order to make use of the power-play. 4. We don't have bowlers who can bat a bit or all-rounders like Irfan anymore. Guess what would happen in a tight game with the tail starting at 7 and players like Zaheer, Nehra, Munaf etc. coming in. If we had tail-enders who could score a little bit, maybe we could have gone with 6 batsmen but with players like Nehra and Munaf in the squad we don't have that luxury. 5. Here's the most important point - which bowler do we bring in? It's not as if we have McGrath or Wasim Akram warming up the bench. Do you guys honestly believe us restricting opposition to 250 by adding one more bowler? We have always been a lousy bowling team and even if we go with 5 specialist bowlers, we will still concede big totals. 6. Today's game was a one-off. Such games happen (e.g., Aus-SA game where SA chased 434) and the best option is not to over-analyze the loss. Yes, we need to improve our bowling and players need a kick up their asses for the shoddy fielding display but let's not change what works for us. There will be games when things go against you and nothing seems to go your way and it was such kind of game for us - Dhoni, Yuvraj falling off consecutive deliveries, Strauss not given out caught behind TWICE!!!, Bell getting a huge break via UDRS etc. Overall I would change a couple of things - maybe bring in Raina for Yusuf, and bring in one of Nehra/Sreesanth/Ashwin in place of Chawla. Chawla is not a power-play bowler and if you go with 2 pacers, you will need one more bowler who has to bowl in power-plays. Thus either one more pacer or Ashwin who knows how to bowl during power-plays has to be in, in place of Chawla. Plus Chawla was pretty poor today. He gave boundary bowls every bowler and we were lucky that Strauss hit at least 5-6 short balls from Chawla to deep square-leg or deep mid wicket for a single. Against aggressive players or better teams he would have been hit for 6s. One huge positive - the team knows it can't relax even if they score 300+ and it has to work on fielding and field positioning. If we had set better field positions and cut off easy singles we would have won comfortably. But better to learn these lessons now than at the knock-out stage :smiley:

couple of things.there is no way Raina is going to sit the whole WC.he will play one or two games (maybe against WI and a minnow).Ashwin should also get a game or two.He can bowl in the powerplay which is useful if we go with 2 spinners again,he can bat a bit too.to me it all comes down to the kind of wickets we play in the knockouts though.The venues we play our knockouts seem to suggest that we will play on pattas and that is a serious disadvantage to us if we run into the aussies or Lankans.

Why oh why we don't play our matches on turning tracks? Our strength is spin and that's the only way we can succeed as frankly it would be tough to restrict good batting teams with the bowling resources we have on flat surfaces, irrespective whether we play 4, 5 or 6 bowlers.

Unless the pitch is a turner, there is no point in playing 2 spinners and also having both Yuvi (on current form) and YP (as utility spinner and cricketer) in our line up If we go in w/ 4 bowlers then it should be 3+1 and if we go have to play 2 spinners, we play 5 bowlers .... simple

Playing 7th batsman also depends upon the kind of form the top 5 to 6 batsman are in. :winky:

You can't play attacking cricket if you don't have players for it. Batting side we can do so but don't think our bowling can be used as an "attacking" option unless the pitch is turning and providing assistance to spinners.

Do you guys think India would sail through with abs no hiccups, fkups etc...just imagine if we had lost it, I mean we were losing it outright so we infact came back. We fixed the fk up we did, and stole half a win.. Now, we gotta fix the bowling and if we can't - then I am afraid, this WC is not for us
