Yusuf or Kohli in playing 11 ?

I dont see why gambir's spot has to be secured. When SRT and Dhoni are there' date= there really is no need for gambhir in the team, Kohli is much better than Gambhir and can be aggressive too. Gambhir has a miserable record against some quality pacers, and gets out in the same way always.
:omg: I don't see why Gambhir's spot should not be secured. He's among the highest run scorers for India in the last 3-4 years and has been probably one of our most consistent batsmen. Even thinking of dropping a player like Gambhir is utter foolishness.

IMO - Based on recent form, Indian conditions and composition of rest of the 'fixed' batsmen (Sachin, Sehwag, GG, MSD) - both of them deserve the spot in starting 11 ahead of Yuvi, Raina.

1) We have atleast 10 WC matches to play including the warmups and hence they would be rotated, the ones underperforming the first few matches could be dropped. 2) Based on attitude I would drop Yuvraj (even though Dhruv likes him), but he has a very useful bowling hand, and the mouthwatering prospect of watching a Yuvraj in full flourish could keep him there. He can be a handful. 3) The axe seems to be on Raina's trail, but he has an Extraordinary record in the subcontinent. Especially at WhoopAss ! 4) I say drop Dhoni and hand Virat the gloves :haha:

Yea let us drop world no.2 ICC ranked player Kohli
His consistency goes in his favour. And Yusuf's monsterous batting and allround skills go in his favour. So Raina can sit out. Harsh, but he did get lucky when he was picked in the Test squad of SA and kept his place in all ODIs despite poor performances.

India XI Sehwag Tendulkar Gambhir Yuvraj Dhoni Raina Pathan Harbhajan Praveen Kumar Zaheer Munaf 12th Man - Kohli I think India will go in the first few games with the above-mentioned team and Kohli as the 12th player. Problem with including Kohli is that with Gambhir and Tendulkar back we have 3 consolidators - Tendulkar, Gambhir and Dhoni. 3 consolidators are more than enough on Indian pitches. If the wrld cup were to be held outside subcontinent I would drop Raina for Kohli. Raina is amazing on Indian pitches and can go big, and yuvraj provides an additional bowling option for Dhoni. However, if Raina or Yuvraj continue to struggle in the early matches in the wrld cup, I am sure Kohli will get a look-in and will replace whoever is out of form. But overall it's a nice problem for India to have - problem of plenty :) I still remember the old days in 90s when after Tendulkar, or Tendulkar & Ganguly you had to struggle to find enough quality batsmen and as a result we had players such as Jacob Martin, Kanitkar, Robin Singh etc. playing as a top order bat!
