Eden Gardens has lost the Feb 27th match(India vs England). Here's the story:- http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cricket_worldcup2011/content/story/498450.html

Eden Gardens will not host the World Cup game between India and England on February 27, the ICC has said. The ICC's inspection team drew on the knowledge and experience of some of the leading experts in the field of stadium and ground preparation and the view was that Eden Gardens would not be ready by the 27 February. "Regrettably, Eden Gardens has not made sufficient progress to justify the level of confidence required to confirm that the venue would be ready in good time," Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, has said. "This was no easy decision to take and while it is most unfortunate, it is absolutely necessary."
This serves us right. Indians were never known for proper planning and management. Even the other day, Dalmia had displayed some false bravado and insisted that the preparation would be complete by Feb 1st.... :banghead: :banghead:

What's funny is that this comes after:

The news comes just two days after the tournament director, Ratnakar Shetty, waved away worries over readiness of World Cup venues. Media personnel had been barred from a recent inspection of Eden Gardens
A bit sad that Eden lost the match but hope BCCI learned its lesson! This is just crazy to not have the venue match-ready in the required time-frame

Having lived in Bengal for 18 years,I can only say that this wasn't unexpected. Everything is so slow and stagnant in Bengal. People don't work much,a lot of hooliganism prevails, people do only bakwas, loose talks etc, bandhs are called at a rate comparable to only Kashmir. Bengal still rests on its past glory. Nothing has changed much since independence and most probably never will. Kolkata is a relic. I guess CAB has more to do with this nonsense than BCCI tbh.

Pathetic by the CAB and the BCCI, its the common-wealth games all over again, why can't the richest cricket board even get a stadium ready in time.

I'm really angered by this. Eden Gardens is the reason I booked 2 weeks extra holiday and now its not happening. Its bloody unbelievable how this can keep happening over and over.

Dude, I'm a Gujju. And these guys have a very unpleasant past. We all know about that. EG didn't even get a game to host for almost 2 yrs under a power-ful regime.

Show up at Dalmiya's house and ask for a refund for the entire trip and tell him that Ganguly sent you. That should take care of things. :-)

Doubt it. Will probably have to fly elsewhere for wherever the match is relocated and chances are it could be the same date, coz don't think they can fit it in any other time

:rotfl: What a **** up..can't wait to see the look on Andy and Tex's faces
This one is a big shame though. Not just for CAB or BCCI, but for the image of India. First CW games all that mess, and now Worldcup. Cant these buffoons get anything right? Ratnakar Shetty or Ratnakar Sh.i..tty :finger:
