Delve deep into his recent record and you might just be compelled to identify him as the first among equals. In fact, he is much more. Three successive centuries in Ranji Trophy in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final and you might just be looking at the future of Indian cricket. "I guess an under-19 skipper is always considered a future India player," Udaipur-based Menaria told TOI in all modesty. "But then, I guess I have to play well enough to make the grade." Having proved his point, now the 20-year-old Menaria would be hoping that the national selectors have noticed his potential. "Of course he is destined to play for India," Vivek Bhan Singh, Rajasthan's chief selector, told TOI. "He is immensely talented and has excelled in every age-group that he has played in. Right from his early days in the game, we have known that he is a special talent," Singh, a former president of the Udaipur Cricket Association, said. Rajasthan coach Amit Asawa agrees. "The way he has been playing, Ashok should be in contention for a India berth soon." All the talent was almost undone by a condition that afflicts mostly rugby players. A surgery for Gilmore's Groin in Germany (November 19), brought Menaria back on track. "I feared that my career would be seriously hampered," Menaria, who had to sit out for almost seven months, said. He, however, came back with a century against Mumbai (quarterfinals in Jaipur), consolidated with another against Tamil Nadu (semifinals in Jaipur), before putting an inedible mark on this season's Ranji Trophy with a second-innings 101 in the final in Vadodara. "It's a dream comeback for me. It has been an amazing run for me as well as for Rajasthan," Menaria said. Luck favors the brave, and he had his share too, being dropped twice on way to his third century of the season against Baroda. "It really helped that Rajasthan made it to the Super League stage (of Ranji Trophy)," Menaria said. "Players in the Plate Divisions hardly get noticed. How many players from the Plate teams are in the Indian team now? Only Dhoni and Sreesanth." Although it is too late for Menaria to be considered for the World Cup squad, Vivek Bhan Singh feels the Rajasthan player is a perfect candidate for the national T20 team. "He has hit a number of sixes in this season. After all, in T20, big shots matter," he said. Menaria in fact, has hit 11 sixes and 38 fours in the three matches that he has played. He has a strike rate of over 60 and an average of over 90. Menaria has done his bit, now he just has to wait for his tryst with destiny.

I saw him batting in highlights..cannot say about his technique against pacers..though he is pretty good against spinners...his shots are Yuvraj carbon copies though he looks better against spinners than Yuvi..tall and strong guy and can club the bowlers very hard...He needs India A experience and more FC games to improve his game more before an Indian selection...it will be interesting how he does in Vijay Hazaare trophy
saneindian Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Maneria's batting style looks similar to Stephen Fleming. Similar stance, same languid style but looks to have more shots than fleming. Fleming was 6-7 inches taller though. Maneria should do well in the IPL.

He was carting medium pacers and spinners. But when Mithun was banging the bowl into him he was defending awkwardly. Still needs FC games to be more successful. One thing which was very positive to see was that he was Casually Confident about his batting. Dint bother by the names bowling at him " aravind, vinay, mithun", yuvraj considers this attack as international quality attack. And he has the knack of hitting sixes, he can work on his body to build some muscle, he is still very slim, if you look at U19 level, i hated him initially the way he was embarassed by PAKI bowler(raza),i gave him 1 / 10, but now it seems he has worked on his game, never looked the attacking type in U19 world cup, but now looks completely different, dont know its the game change or the quality of bowling change, whatever it is , it'll take some time to assess him. But he's on a right path.

Can't call him strong and tall.. He is O.K. with the bat.. Got talent.. Nothing extra to compare with Yuvraj..

No ways is this kid playing for India again .[/quote'] He will certainly play for India..he is an allrounder...he is not a top order batsman..he bats at 6-7 and bowls good left arm spin...In U-19 WC, he mainly played as a spinner but after that he concentrated more on his batting and he has improved a lot...he will be there if he keeps improving....he scored 3 consecutive centuries in ranji knock out games which is a record and you cannot count him out so early

He will succeed if he plays the way he has been.

Unfortunately Maneria isnt a freak like Shewag , there are a few players who have done well without a good technique ....but for that , you need to be exceptionally talented .
