The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which is due to stage the World Cup final, does not yet meet fire safety standards. Local official Uday Tatkare claims his inspectors have found several problems which need to be corrected before the stadium is given the go-ahead to host cricket's global showpiece event on April 2. "The team has found that the newly renovated stadium has many loopholes in its fire safety mechanism," Tatkare told the Press Trust of India. "The stadium must be in compliance with the fire safety conditions. "We will soon write a letter to the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) stating there is a need to comply with fire safety norms at the stadium. "Once they abide by the terms we would again conduct an inspection."

:wall: And people want India to host our own WC :haha:
How would hosting on our own compound this problem? This is just a basic issue that should have been corrected without the inspecting team pointing out, hosting alone or not. It has nothing to do with the scale of matches being held in the country.

It is the carelessness of the individual boards in question. Even if we were conducting only 2 matches in India in this WC, Kolkata would still have been not ready and Mumbai would have not passed the fire inspection.

This is seriously embarrassing. WTF are the idiots doing?
Our 'Chalta Hai' attitude has been embarassing us big time since the CWG when it comes to organising sports tournaments in the country.

CWG was not "chalta hai" attitude. That was serious organized corruption. Sheer greed. It was the "bech ke khajao" attitude. This one again is not "chalta hai". This is sheer incompetence.

I was not even talking about the financial part of CWG, just about the organizing part. Though we managed to pull it off at the last minute(should sound very familiar for most of the things in India), it was utter carelessness earlier.

One would have thought they would have learnt some sort of lessons after the CWG fiasco??? :hysterical: Lalit Modi :isalute:
He would have diverted the inspection officials to an all expense paid vacation in Hawaii and prevented the inspection from happening at all...master of sweeping mountains under the carpet :cantstop:

guys.. this is the local fire official having his 2 seconds of fame. He's probably not been given his "due", if you know what i mean. The only thing needed is a little expense-water. All will be fine.

By tomorrow, ALL IJ WELL..Everything will be "sorted".. How incompetent the organisers are. They should've "sorted out" all the concerned "departments" long back..
