Even South Africa are playing only 2 frontline seamers

Whatever it is, I was really disappointed by Chawla yesterday. How could Swan and Bresnan hit him for sixes in one over? If a leggie couldn't trap even a tailender, what is the use?

Chawla shouldn't have been bowling at the death. the 2+2 combination meant that Ind didn't have too many option in the game. And because we played an extra spinner as one of the 4 bowlers' date=' we couldn't even utilize YP bowling .... All this puts a big Q mark on going in w/ 2 spinners when we have two part timer spinners in our line up. Unless the pitch has turn or we have a seam bowling all-rounder, the 2+2 option robs us of options[/quote'] If we playing 2+2 that second spinner has to open the bowling and should be able to bowl in death or batting power play and that guy is Ashwin, Banking on Yuvraj and Pathan for ten over is big gamble and it will not pay off on most occasions.Pathan's bowling is very ordinary for him to bowl even three overs is gamble. Indian cannot play with 7 batsmen (counting Dhoni as a batsmen) and win. What is use of having Dhoni in batting order as an allrounder if team still needs 6 batsmen. One of three among Yuvi ,Pathan and Kohli have to sit for additional bowler. Playing extra batsmen will never payoff remember Dinesh Mongia was played over Kumble in 2003 world cup.He just was passenger there ,same like Kohli yesterday.

I agree that Ind should try out the 6+5 combination .... 7+2+2 is stupid unless the pitch is a turner or we have a seam bowling all-rounder like Pollock, Cairns. It is probably no different then going in w/ 8+2+1, which is probably dumb as well. Either it is 7+3+1 or 6+5. And I would want Ind to try out 6+5 in the next 3 games :nice:

Me too. I think it's high time Ashwin got a chance in the group stages itself.. now is the only time we can afford to shuffle our combination and understand what works best for us. Ashwin also has a reputation of being solid in the slog/powerplay overs, and considering that Sreesanth got to play as well, we should try out Ashwin soon. Additionally, of those 3 spinners, Bhajji and Ashwin CAN bat a bit through the tail end. Any news about Nehra's fitness?
