The Outsider Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 So I suggest better stick to arguing with facts and let the public decide. Is that why you keep rehashing the same arguments in all kinds of different threads because the public decided against your arguments in the ICF poll?:winky:
Online Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Ofcourse SRT is a legend, and a special one at that too. And, yes we are fortunate to watch the Little Master in action. The problem is only when people decrease the achievements of other special legends of the game. It is not DGB's fault that there were no ODIs back then, or that Eng-Aus were the main cricket teams of that era. The thing is that any special sportsperson is recognized by the drive to excel well and truly beyond others. SRT has the drive, and DGB had that. That's why we cannot rule out - that Had DGB played in today's era, maybe he would have been a super achiever too. We cannot rule it out, and hence all we are saying is Comparison between SRT and DGB is invalid. Totally different timeframes and situations. Just that some people abandon logic, and any rationale and go totally jingoistic instead of being able to calmly look at why the comparison is invalid. There is 4 ways to look at this 1. DGB > SRT 2. SRT > DGB 3. SRT = DGB 4. Comparisons are odious Going by what you have stated it is clear that you acknowledge that since they are from different generations they cannot be compared. Therefore you are in category 4. Therefore it is fair to assume that you will never say that DGB is the greatest ever. I guess that is a minor victory in itself, and hopefully the entire cricketing fraternity starts to acknowledge that. Often it is said that DGB, daylight, SRT. Hopefully that myth is now well and truly busted. SRT is no lesser than any other batsman of any generation.
Andy Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 no - I mean you added a watermark of the facebook link ON that picture and it ruined it for me. The pic otherwise is just top-class. If you could give me a copy of that pic without the watermark' date=' it would be awesome. But I understand if you feel the need to protect your work that way.[/quote'] Actually I Have only one copy for that. From the next time i'll ensure i have two. :nice:
vvvslaxman Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 First time i visit this thread. I thought it was just a video of Sachin's sixes. Out of curiosity checked out. I see Bradman vs Tendulkar argument :cantstop:
pensionplan Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 No you did not. You specifically never answered how a bowler who is a spinner has FC & Test stats that are faar better than a decent Fast Bowler. Any fast bowler would die to have an Avg of under 21 even if the strike rate is on the higher side. In all likelyhood you will never answer this and hide behind excuses that are easy to find but hey wonders do happen. And BTW after you are done with Ernie Toshack there are a few others that I want you to look at. So yeah lets do the doodh-ka-doodh exercise if you have any honesty. Apart from Toshack in that video there were quite a few bowlers we have seen and I have given you what I felt about them. Granted I have mixed up the names and Toschack's bowling classification between spin/pace as was listed on cricinfo but I clearly told I was impressed by what I saw from the bowlers overall and given my views as such on that thread. To me that is more important. Judging the quality. If in any way shape or form rating Tochack was important beyond what I said already and relevant to Bradman debate I would have done it. I did not and hence moved on from it. So I do not think I have come up with any excuses as you are suggesting. And likewise for you anything that sheds light on your beloved DGB is Tendulkar worshipping ... And ? Stick to the facts. You would hope that Bradman is beloved to me. The same reason why it took BCL more inngs to reach the 8000 mark. It means nothing. Over a long period of time there will be ups and downs in a players career but since SRT has now far surpassed BCL and even the avg is now way beyond what BCL ended up with there is not even any doubt as to who was overall the more consistent and better batsman. In all likelihood he will end up with about 5000 Runs more than BCL with about 20-25 more hundreds. No other player in the history of the game has ever reset the highwater mark by that margin (BTW he never was ahead of SRT in terms of 100s or the AVG when he retired). Heck SRT would have run down about 75-80% of that 11953 mark in JUST AWAY RUNS ALONE. Have some of your favorite alcholic beverage relax and think about it for a moment and see how freakin unbelievable that is. In short don't even get into the " why did SRT not do this and that kinda argument". You will simply be burried by a deluge of achievements that you are well aware that BCL never even got close to achieving. And we havent even touched on ODIs which are an integral part of Cricket in this ERA. Here he will end up with close to freakin TWICE the amount of runs that BCL managed. As if 100's do not count towards the total number of runs. No matter how Lara got to 11,953 a world record at the time (100', 50's does not matter) it took Tendulkar 15 innings more to cross the WC be it more numbers of hundreds or less. That is a fact. The rest of what you are presenting here is nothing but a futile exercise and not relevant to my contention on why it took the best batsman ever in your opinion that many more innings to cross the WC set in the same era and generation. It is because the sport did not simply attract enough talent that could compete due to amateur status and the fact that only 2 countries took it seriously. Even in England it wasn't the first choice sport and the utterly dire economic situation meant that the sport would take a back seat. So it is just simply pointless to harp about that ERA. Yes it is no fault of DGB's and it is a great shame that he wasn't around when the sport had evolved almost beyond recognition. You gotta live with that. But the moment you try to ridicule others based on 99.94 > 56.94 then you will naturally be presented with some very uncomfortable facts about that ERA that contributed to the 99.94 figure. I don't want to bore you again with those facts but if insist I most certainly will walk you thru them again starting with SRTs avg against the minnows. The point you are continually missing is in all of team sports leave alone cricket no one metric between the best to the next best for almost a period of 75-100 years is as wide ranging as between Bradman and the next best. The reasons you explained thus far including the presented videos are not good enough or convincing enough at least for me to explain that wide gap even beyond Tests where his FC average is 95 plus over 338 innings that fetched over 28k runs and 117 centuries. And dont forget that all it means is that DGB was far superior to his peers. To extrapolate that to all ERA's before and after DGB would require quite a bit of blind following. That is a given. But on the same token Tendulkar is not far superior to his peers given that he averages in a range where there are quite a few players though given the sheer volume of runs and longevity I rate him better than anyone else in that group. But if someone wants to make a case for a player like a Lara they can by stretching beyond statistics though it would be quite a challenge. It is one thing to be subjective but quite another to back up your subjectivity with some sort of logic and stand up to some close scrutiny. Don't try to shove your biased opinion as fact. And just because you claim to be a un-biased / balanced cricket fan doesn't make you one. It is just YOUR claim. So I suggest better stick to arguing with facts and let the public decide. LOL regards to biased opinion. Reminds me of pot calling the kettle black.
The Outsider Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 But since when did you start valuing polls here ? :hmmm: I didn't say anything about the value of that ICF poll. Just mentioned because you seem pretty obsessed with convincing the public in completely unrelated threads, even after the public has already given a boot to your arguments.
fineleg Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 There used to be a time when people used to baulk at such a comparison ... it is no longer the case and plenty of people are now comming out in the open and acknowledging his greatness At the same time, I hope it won't be a big ask for you to acknowledge the greatness of Sir Don Bradman as well, and other legends of the game. You praise Baasu a lot (for good of course), but some of that praise can be for other legends of the game too. ... bad days for the Bradman bhaktagan . There is no necessity for Bradman Bhakts, Ganguly bhakts, Tendulkar bhakts, Dravid bhakts, Lara bhakts, Steve Jobs' bhakt (holysmoke baba). We can just be fans instead of bhakts.
vvvslaxman Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 This is like 134523432th topic about Bradman vs Tendulkar. As usual Bossbhai is the traffic police of the thread :cantstop:
fineleg Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Shwetabh has never run down SRT. He already recognizes Sach's achievements. So, why would I need to advice him to acknowledge Baasu?
ludhianvi Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Resume your Sachin ke chake argument after the WC. Let's enjoy the cup
Holysmoke Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 At the same time, I hope it won't be a big ask for you to acknowledge the greatness of Sir Don Bradman as well, and other legends of the game. You praise Baasu a lot (for good of course), but some of that praise can be for other legends of the game too. There is no necessity for Bradman Bhakts, Ganguly bhakts, Tendulkar bhakts, Dravid bhakts, Lara bhakts, Steve Jobs' bhakt (holysmoke baba). We can just be fans instead of bhakts. Yo, seriously. I like good design, but I aint no jobs bhakt. If you want a crash course on good design, just look at the new ipad. Heck, just look at the damn cover apple made for the ipad 2:two_thumbs_up: magnets that auto align the cover placement, proximity sensor that wakes the ipad when you open it.. i can go on.. see the vid ZJkUUum6Q0Y PS - SRT > SJ:winky:
fineleg Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 I agree holy, the designs are really great. I was just pulling your leg. :D SRT > SJ - who is SJ (Sanath?) - then yeah, SRT is certainly > Boss Bhai - the funny moniker guy as you call him, I think is not mocking SRT - he is only mocking the fans who go over board. I dont think there is any Indian cricket fan who is also not a SRT fan. However, some of the fans can get peeved when the rest go over the top abt only one cricketer and start thinking that everything starts and ends with a single player. That's all. Find me a current Indian fan, on this forum or any other, who thinks Sachin is not a legend and a top quality one at that. I'd be surprised if you can find. On the other hand, you'll be able to find SRT fans who think there are other legends as well. And, that's fair enough since we have to acknowledge there exist other greats of the game too.
pensionplan Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Lets get this clear before I decide to waste any more time debating with you ( which in all probability is a utterly futile exercise given how you blatantly lie thru your teeth ) ... Are you trying to tell me that you are so impressed with Toshacks bowling that you have no hesitation in branding him as a bowler with strike capabilities on par with very good fast bowlers from modern ERA even though he is technically a spinner ?First off you are getting too carried away on the classification of a bowler as was done on cricinfo. Keeping comparisons aside from what I saw of him on the video's you posted and asked me to watch and give an opinion in a career spanning 7 Tests it is very well possible for Toshack to be a 66 S/R bowler that has averaged 21 or so having a low economy rate of below 2. To me that is more important than extrapolating his 7 test career or FC career with some other bowlers from the recent generation. Instead of appreciating the others point of view you are making assumptions and implying that they may be lying thru their teeth which to me is an act of desperation. What you want everyone to fold up and just declare that Tendulkar is the greatest batsman ever outright and agree with you. Come on now. Looks like you are losing it a bit here.
